IT’S ALWAYS THE LITTLE THINGS THAT REMIND ME WHY I MISS THE USA SO MUCH.

  1. Your appliances sound horrible - but the USA ain’t what it used to be.

Long time ago, I was told I was going to have twins, as I had one child already - the thought of dragging laundry for 5 to the local duds n suds with 3 under 3 in tow - well it made me want to cry. So I went to the library, did a little recon work and we went out and bought a Whirlpool set - oversized for about $700. for the set. Fast forward to the year 2001 and the dryer was finally showing it’s death rattles - so I foolishly thought Whirlpool worked for 24 years (and oh btw, did not have a set of twins - so I got a real win-win on that deal) that it should still be good. The dryer won’t dry anything thicker than a sheet of tp in under two runs, the washer sucks and does not even hold a full load well - and the finish already sucks (moved 3 times, looks like it’s been in the backyard for a year) dryer purchased in 2001, washer in 2003 - doubt that they are going to last 24 years.

Next major purchase of anything - will be fully reconnoitered before even a store is entered. And I won’t even go into the piece of garbage the (2001) dishwasher is - other than keeping my hands out of hot water - it too isn’t worth a single penny.

  2. I have been very happy with My Speedqueen Washer Dryer set.

Purchased them new in 1984 when I moved into my home.

Had to repair the Element in the Dryer twice over the years and the Washer finally gave up the ghost last year, But I was able to Buy another Speedqueen.

The beauty of the Speedqueens is the Simplicity of the Transmission, they go forever.

Only down side is they are not a Low water consumption machine.

  3. I did a little research on BEKO appliances… This is what happens when you let a designer with “featuritis” loose on a product design.  Either that, or it’s “Health and Safety” regulation gone mad.  Where the UK is concerned, sometimes it’s hard to tell what contributes more to the overall insanity.

I think I’d be tempted to acquire a service manual and wiring diagram for these things, and see if I could simplify things any.  There was NOTHING wrong with simple, analog, electro-mechanical control systems.

Oh, and the child-lock on the door?  It’d get disconnected and left hanging by its wires inside the belly of the beast, while the actual latch got replaced with a simple magnetic, or mechanical latch from the hardware store.  What the control circuitry doesn’t know won’t annoy me.  grin

Maybe the simpler path is to try to find an appliance repair places that has older, more sensible equipment for a fair price.  Ditch the BEKO pieces of crap, and get something from the past that works better.  I swear I’m going to do that for our next washer/dryer set, and to hell with these modern, thin metal, too many plastic parts, “lasts 5 years at best” pieces of shit they’re coming out with now.
