Sorry, but I disagree.
Syria and Iran (or even the Saudis) could cross over the border tommorow and revitalize the whole effing shebang.
V-E Day happened after every single Axis nation on the European Continent (except Democratic Finland, which fought off countless Soviet Assaults to retain its freedom and then switched sides and attacked their German “Allies") was crushed between ourselves and the Soviets.
V-J Day happened after the once-mighty Japanese Empire, stripped of her conquests, with her tributary nations switching sides or being overwhelmed, found herself confined the the Home Islands, with no Navy, no effective Air Force, and two gaping radioactive holes in her.
This isn’t over. Not by a long shot. We may have destroyed the Baathists and the Iraqi/Foreign Mujahadeen, but the presence of the Syrian and Iranian forces means we cannot cheer yet.
And I did hear on the news how Iraq wants us to stay at least 3 more years. They know as well as we do that stuff could fire back up, and they want us there to back them up if it does. But this IS good news, how stuff has died so far down.
Mission #2 Accomplished?
Turtler is right. Until Syria, Iran and KSA shut down the borders against infiltrators from their own sides, the war will not be completely over. For Iran, this will probably necessitate a counter-revolution against the mullahs. For KSA, the gringing to hell of all Wahhabi and Salafi sects. For Syria, the overthrow of its mafia government. The political ripples from Iraq need to wash over the entire Middle East.
The real litmus test in the Middle East is how they treat other religions. When Iraqi Christians and Jews start returning home from Istanbul (for example), then I think it I think we can call the war over.
Did you know that young people in Iran are so disgusted with the mullahs, that they are en masse converting to Christianity? The mullahs are trying to keep a lid on it using persecution and murder. Islamic rule in Iran is a rotting tree, waiting for a good kick to bring it down.
While I agree to some degree with Turtler - I’m coming down on Drew’s side - and as much as I disliked McAmnesty - I’d wish he’d won - because we’d be able to continue that strong front which would discourage much beyond the sneaking weapons & people across borders. With B. Hussein in office - well there is the possibility of Iran & Syria messing up what we accomplished.
The problem with tyrants, dictators and mullahs (not to mention the outright insane such as Ahmadinejad) is that when they reach the tipping point of murder, mayhem and ‘funding’ their special projects - even though ‘the people’ may appear to be bowing on bended knee - as DWMF showed - behind the scene they are formenting their own revolution. And I hope our own petty little, hateful man-child wanna-be Master of the Universe is not so inexperienced, immature or ego driven that he can’t see the handwriting on the wall.
The msm however, is so far gone - they can’t see anything but the butt in front of them that they are kissing.
Which is why they choose to elevate B. Hussein rather than extolling our Troops and the real victory that they have accomplished in Iraq and are working on (thanks msm) again in Afghanistan.
Perhaps the msm is waiting until B. Hussein takes office - so that he can be declared the President who achieved victory in Iraq. They are so immature, petty and beholden - I wouldn’t put it past them.
Anyone that thinks anything in the Middle East is over, is just taking a guess. Some, like Drew said, are more informed than others. This region of the world will be fighting in some aspect till the end of mankind. So take your best guess!
