Look into audiophile speakers. Thiel, Von Schweikert, B&W, Revel, Ariel, Wilson Audio, Focal, Dunleavy, etc. Massive cabinet structure is the norm. My pair of 10-Ts with their iron bases weigh probably 125lbs, which is nearly lightweight for this level of speakers. Ok, I weigh a lot more than that, so I was exaggerating a bit, but the speaker bases are coupled to the floor with spikes. That makes moving them even harder, and sometimes a bit dangerous.

Here’s a link, download the .pdf from there:

OCM - obviously you’ve never been married. Or happily so.

  2. In this house - the hubby is the instigator of all room movement/redesign - as long as we have a couch and it sits directly across from the tv - I could give a damn about any of the other crap. Sadly, most of our guests know that right away as they have to drag dining table chairs to the living room to have a seat. But as we have that many guests about 1 time a year - oh well, don’t like it - there’s the door.

He is pondering his next move - to reverse the current setup - which I do admit I instigated. Putting the living room back into the living room (who in the heck puts a living room in the back of the house - with no room in front from which to watch for the school bus and/or deliveries?) - so now that is not an issue - maybe it’s time.

The trouble is that we have many large & heavy pieces - such as a the aforementioned couch, piano, bookcase, entertainment center, two computer desks and several bookcases, and a china cabinet - which all make the process undesirable to undertake. We shall see. We did move the server (computer) down to the basement - so 100 degree drop in the up stair temp and more open space.

Of course the youngest will be departing sometime prior to NOvember (if there is a God) - so that will free up some additional space (maybe if we are lucky). So it may be more worthwhile to wait until then to even ponder such a move.

  3. OK the first bookcase was meant to be a curio cabinet and I left out the gun cabinet, stereo speakers, the grandfather clock and an antique desk. It is an undertaking - that right now in the midst of the dog days of summer - neither of us is in the mood to take on.

  4. OCM - obviously you’ve never been married. Or happily so.

Most states don’t allow marriage to one’s sister. Or pet.

  5. Good afternoon to you too, sir!

And isn’t it a lovely day?

  6. That last bit is interesting. I’m under the impression that BP, along with every other Producer here in Alaska (ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, et al) has a loooong-standing policy of not ever ever ever using any parts/services/equipment whatsoever that come from China; including, and perhaps most especially, steel for the simple fact that it is KNOWN to be inferior in quality and suspect in fabrication. China steel is especially notorious is cold-weather applications.
I’m fairly certain that that is an organization-wide policy for each Producer operating in AK and that it is not merely Arctic-oilfield-centric, but organization-wide, i.e.: it’s a policy in their GP, or Global Practices.

If they did use China made products, then they set themselves up for (catastrophic) failure.
Of course, we here in Alaska are a tad too familiar with BP’s tendency to go the cheap route.

I only stop there because I’m sure you get the picture now.

The wonderful thing about ExxonMobil, say, is that they understand, on a deep and intimate level, that a dollar spent on an ounce of prevention saves untold heartache and loss of capital later. This company, whenever they have an incident any where in their organization, it widely distributed, talked about, discussed, analyzed and saolution is devised which is then disseminated to every tier and market they operate in and becomes a part of their GP. They, in essence, don’t just own to up to their mistakes, they take ownership of them and use them a lessons and become a better company for them. And they’ve been doing that since well before The Valdez incident.

  7. I’m detecting this faint note of hostility in your typing again, OldCrotchNommer and I just don’t see why.

Is your back bothering you? I’m not surprised: they say continuing the habit of boy-buggering into late middle age can seriously fuck it up. You should really give it up.

BTW: all my deceased relatives were cremated. So all you need to do to piss on their graves is lay on your back and pee straight up. Perhaps you should ask your sister to help you with the aiming.

Be my guest! Knock yourself out, old Nommer!

  8. Isn’t it sweet how Steamy and OCM flirt all the time? What a cute couple they’d make.

  9. Yeah, Drew, watch out.

...Or Ol’ CrotchNommer will teach you obedience with his 4-inch Man-Poker!

(Ya ever wonder what his cousin - you know, the brain-damaged one they call Einstein - was running FROM when he rushed into traffic? Could it have been Ol’ Nommer and his 4-inch Boy-Bludgeon? “No, Uncle Nommer - not again!")

So how’d that pissing go, Nommer? Still pissed off? Or just pissed on?

  10. Yer jus’ pissin’ in the wind, Nommer!

  11. Steamboat - actually my evening vegg session in front of the tv is part of why our marriage has lasted 26 years. During his military days - it allowed him to computer without having to ‘talk’ about his day with me and now after our morning talk sessions - it gives him time to computer without me interrupting him.
