Smitten?

  1. Dear, oh dear.  Is this the way to keep the $$$$$$ rolling in?  What else were such clowns ever about?

    How crass.

    shut eye

  2. Perhaps Allah is trying out his hand at a little “smiting” as well, in mecca:

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060105/ap_on_re_mi_ea/saudi_hotel_collapse

One can only hope that it was a meeting of terrorist “heads” at the time

Now, just one moment.... How does a hotel simply “collapse”.  Was it a total lack of building codes, was it an explosion, or did a “bolt out of the blue” (of either divine or military origin) take care of business question  hmmm

  3. I submit Benjamin Kerstein’s post from his own blog found at:

    http://antichomsky.blogspot.com/2006/01/arik.html

    Arik

Thy glory, Israel, is fallen upon his heights......

What does one say when giants are dying? Perhaps in a day or two I will say more than this, but right now, one thing is certain: we have lost our DeGaulle. The way forward is clear, but without him it will be more difficult, more complicated, and much slower in coming. His slanderers will curse his name in the coming days, and those of us who admired and believed in him will smile and keep our own counsel. He took the slings and arrows for all of us, for the entirety of his people. He loved us and he fought for us until the inevitable came. Every man, however strong, however great, must eventually face the unavoidable fact of mortality. He has done enough, more than enough, more than could be requested of any man. He made his mistakes, and they were our mistakes; he achieved the greatness he sought for his entire life, and it was ours as well. Sharon is the last of a generation of giants. He was of a generation which is now a part of the past, and the country they hewed out of barren rock is now stronger than any single man. In that, we may take more than some comfort amongst the tragedy. Benjamin Kerstein

  4. While I do believe that God will, on occasion, take care of business, I also feel He does so quietly in most cases.  Even if God did “smite” Sharon, I really don’t think that Pat Robertson would be the person that God would confirm that action with.  I also feel that if God decided that Sharon needed to go, he would be dead and not hanging in a coma.  In this case, I think that Sharon is naturally near the end of his life from old age, poor health, and who knows what else.  But, as Tannenberg says, Robertson needs the bucks to come in, and this is one way to do it.

  5. Sharon is 77, so God took His sweet time about it.  When Katrina hit New Orleans, one of the Brothers on our Vietnam Marine Corps Delta Co. blog threatened to shoot Robertson if he said it was God’s punishment.  He immediately had a dozen volunteers for the position of spotter, ammo humper, etc.

  6. I think that if you stuck a broom up his ass you’d have a delusional idiot on a stick.

I don’t blame the libs for taking advantage of every stupid statement Robertson makes. Wouldn’t you? After all, they have to suffer for the likes of Dean, Pelosi and a variety of other fruitcakes.

The difference is that Robertson is not in public office, has never been in public office but once promoted himsself as a political figure. It is also very easy to point to this yammering fool as symbolic of the “religious/Christian right”.

Funny how they don’t follow Billy Graham around and quote him, isn’t it?

  7. Skipper & All:
Please keep those of us in your thoughts this weekend, as we meet at “day labor” sites across the U.S., to protest the illegal invasion - my daughter & I are traveling almost 300 miles to take part - we’ve already been warned of the potential for violence, on the part of the “pro-immigration” groups - it seems the protest we’re attending is going to be mostly women and the elderly - not that my daughter or myself are lacking in fortitude - it’s just funny to me that men , who are most affected in job searches by the illegal population, ‘don’t have the time’ ........................

P.S.  Sorry to post this HERE, but needed to get word to you ASAP, since we’ll be leaving shortly .....................

  8. Pat Robertson is living proof that one does not have to be a leftist looney liberal to be qualified as a Barking Moonbat. Far right wing nut job cranky zealots can also apply, and be inducted, (or perhaps indicted) into the
Barking (Rabid) Moonbat Hall of Shame. banghead

  9. And whilst Pat Robertson is receiving a well-deserved banghead version of the drum solo from Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida, I submit this excellent article penned by Mark Steyn:

    http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110007760

This comes courtesy of our brother-in-arms, Emperor Darth Misha and the Rottweiler Empire, at http://www.nicedoggie.net , and is not only a great “read”, it is a warning to all good folk, about the gathering hordes of barbarians at the gates of civilized western societies around the world. Civilizations do not die by murder, they die by suicide, and those in our “liberal” democrat party are simply hastening this mass suicide, whether we desire it or not. Eurabia is already on the skids, let us not allow this to occur over here.

  10. Drudge is reporting that the official annuncement of Sharons death will be made shortly. May he rest in peace and his family be comforted by the prayers of good people everywhere.

As for Robertson, I agree wholeheartedly with John C. (post #4). God sometimes takes a hand in the course of human events, but, he doesn’t conference with Pat Robertson about it.

  11. Nor does He speak through Je$$e Jack$son, Al $harpton, or most others who claim to be the messenger of God, looking for every means to promote themselves as such.  I consider them to be media whores, looking to enhance their own image.  I feel God makes more progress working with people who earnestly seek Him in their own personal way, then act on their good morals, conscience and intelligence.

  12. Personally, I pray that god smites such goofballs as they appear and open their big idiotic mouths, but he never does. I guess he thinks it’s funny, and we all need a little comic relief sometimes.

  20. Rat Patrol, I heartily agree with you about the barbarians at the gates, and I fear that we are not far behind Eurabia, which is now no more than a hodgepodge of misbegotten “People’s States” flavored with sand, hashish and blood.

    Try this on for size:

When men reduce their virtues to the approximate, then evil acquires the force of an absolute; when loyalty to an unyielding purpose is dropped by the virtuous, it’s picked up by scoundrels--and you get the indecent spectacle of a cringing, bargaining, traitorous good and a self-righteously uncompromising evil. As you surrendered to the mystics of muscle when they told you that ignorance consists of claiming knowledge, so now you surrender to them when they shriek that immorality consists of pronouncing moral judgment.  When they yell that it is selfish to be certain that you’re right, you hasten to assure them that you’re certain of nothing.  When they shout that it’s immoral for you to stand on your convictions, you assure them that you have no convictions whatever.  When the thugs of Europe’s People’s States snarl that you are guilty of intolerance, because you don’t treat your desire to live and their desire to kill you as a difference of opinion--you cringe and hasten to assure them that you are not intolerant of any horror.  When some barefoot bum in some pesthole of Asia yells at you:  How dare you be rich--you apologize and beg him to be patient and promise him that you’ll give it all away.

“You have reached the blind alley of the treason you committed when you agreed that you had no right to exist.  Once, you believed it was ‘only a compromise’:  you conceded that it was evil to live for yourself, but moral to live for the sake of your children.  Then you conceded that it was selfish to live for your children, but moral to live for your community.  Then you conceded that it was selfish to live for your community, but moral to live for your country.  Now, you are letting this greatest of countries be devoured by any scum from any corner of the earth, while you concede that it is selfish to live for your country and that your moral duty is to live for the globe. A man who has no right to life, has no right to values and will not keep them.”

--Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged (New York:  Random House, 1957, pp. 1054-55).

But it sounds damned timely now, doesn’t it???

A good weekend to one and all.

  21. EXCELLENT! Tannenberg.  Try the first part of an old poem on for size.

    The Second Coming—W. B. Yeats

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all convictions, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

Posted by Oink    United States   01/06/2006  at  07:22 PM

  22. Amen, Oink!  That hits the nail on the head!

In response, I’ll offer a quotation that should remain anonymous for now, but I think it is relevant nonetheless:

“Pre-civilizational savages had little knowledge of any kind.  Post-civilizational savages had the most intimate knowledge possible of any form of evil, and the most hysterical hatred possible of any form of good.”

A good weekend to you, my friend.

  23. Same to you, friend.

I’ve heard that the movie Munich makes that point—the murder of innocent civilians and the desire to get the perps are morally equal. Scary thought: maybe we do not deserve to survive, as a civilization.  We’ll see.

Posted by Oink    United States   01/06/2006  at  07:57 PM

  24. And we’ll see all too soon, I fear.

As for civilization, I fear that most of us no longer have any idea of what the word means.  And I hear altogether too much about “culture,” in one permutation or another.  The two terms could hardly be less synonymous.

Haven’t seen Munich yet.  I certainly remember the Olympic massacre there in the early 1970’s, but to me, “Munich” means 1938 (and to a certain extent, 1923).

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   01/06/2006  at  08:08 PM

  25. Wife & I call it “Kultur with a K”.  Was it Bismark who quoted a play, ”When I hear the word culture, I reach for my pistol”, No, it was some Nazi.

Have you read “Starship Troopers” by Heinlein.

Posted by Oink    United States   01/06/2006  at  08:37 PM

  26. Oink, I’d have to dig into my library to be sure, but I’m fairly certain that the “Kultur” quote was Hermann Goering’s.  Any top Nazi could have said it, though.  Goebbels had the big idea of setting up a “Museum of Decadent Art” in Munich, and Hitler had a penchant for kicking holes through paintings that he considered degenerate.

And yes, I have read Starship Troopers, but it was during my college days, and I was swallowing sci-fi books as fast as I could at that time.  And then I got into Tolkien and high fantasy in general, and I sideswiped sword and sorcery (I will confess a certain attraction to Red Sonja, at least as Smith and Tierney wrote about her, and as Boris Vallejo rendered her in that “Invictus” painting of his).  Anyway, a lot of my college reading has gone stale.

But I still have the troopers on my shelf, and now that I’ve seen both you and the Skipper mention it, I’ll have to dust it off for another look.  I appreciate the tip.

  27. Robertson definitely qualifies as a card carrying moonbat. It does irritate me that he chooses to make capital out of the suffering of a fellow human being. Personally if there is a good I think he has better things to worry about than settling a score with Sharon.

Stin you had me nearly crying with laughter with the mental image of Robertson with a broom up his dirtbox. Thanks for that!

RP, Tann and Oink excellent posts. Thought provoking. I think Bulldog may well get his wish this year. I can see the Israelis taking a more proactive approach with the mad mullahs in Tehran now that Sharon is no longer there to restrain the more aggressive factions.
