I know the feeling. Two weeks ago, we had our first (of two) weekends for our City Tournament. One team of guys, 6 of them, bowled Doubles & Singles on Sunday. Their top bowler went nuts - 681-751 for 6 games (210 average in league this year). Another guy, an Air Force doctor who has been away most of the season, so he has no current year average, but last year carried 179, shot 650 and 690. His 820 with handicap won the Singles Event.
So guess who our team gets to bowl 24 hours later? Riiight. We were lucky to get the last game.
I wonder why your conditions are so wildly different week to week. I suspect the center has open bowling during the day, so sometimes you get dry lanes and sometimes fresh oil. We’re more fortunate here - the local house is closed all day until they open for leagues, when they dress the lanes. At the other house, they are open all day, but they re-oil the lanes just before league, so we always get the same conditions.
1-4-9? I don’t believe I’ve seen that one.
In theory they do the lanes in the late afternoon every day, after 4pm. I’ve seen this happen a million times. Also in theory they use one of the better Kegel machines, computer controlled etc.
And the lanes are the new nylon kind, only 3 years old. So they should hold a pattern better than the old beat up leaky wood lanes.
Personally, I think Tim, the lane mechanic, is a sadistic old bastard. Nice guy, but he puts some really strange laydowns out there. Maybe I can get him to tell me which pattern was used last night - they are all online at the Kegel page.
Phah. I didn’t see Tim, but I bowled a quick 3 games on the same lanes as last night. 186, 213, 217 for a 603. Go figure. Maybe I just crumble under “pressure”.
