  1. I tend to use colloidial silver.  Yeah if you drink three gallons of it a day for a year you might have some interesting side effects, but short of that it has no downside, and most bugs don’t tend to like it much.  And I think it works at least.

Only problem is finding it in sufficient potency, most of the time the diluted crap in the stores isn’t worth buying.  I prefer a homemade generator personally and I like it strong enough to stand a spoon in… (OK, that’s a BIT of an exaggeration)…

  2. I think I’ll go with the Irish Whiskey solution. I seem to remember having a bottle of Baileys around here somewhere .....

    blank stare

  3. Time to break open a case of Mucinex.  That stuff is great for chest congestion.

Be sure to drink plenty of water with that, though.

Take Advil for your fever, and Claritin D for your stuffed up nose.

Not much your can do for the nausea, except keep eating so the phlegm draining down to your stomach doesn’t make it worse.

  4. Get well quickly, Skipper!!

Posted by Happy_Retiree    United States   09/27/2006  at  01:36 PM

  5. Tylenol might help.

Posted by CKO86    United States   09/27/2006  at  01:40 PM

  6. BLEARGH!

Posted by The Skipper    United States   09/27/2006  at  01:47 PM

  7. Eat - always feed a fever. Lots of fluid - water, juice and tea would be much more preferable over the man cure recommended. [Remember, alcohol dehydrates]. Toast, crackers, oatmeal will help with the upset stomach. Small snacks and meals, often better than a real meal.

Tylenol or my fav (when I just want to zone out and sleep Nyquil).

    Get Well Soon.

  8. Three bottles of “GI Gin” and a fistful of APCs (All Purpose Capsules) might help. Or at least bring back bad memories or Army Sick Call…

Get well soon. That’s an order…

  9. I like wardmama’s ideas…

Oh and take (light doses of) betaine HCL.  The increased stomach acid can make a massive change in the bacteria count because the mucus won’t just be a temporary holding point anymore.  Don’t want to overdo it, but in proper amounts it can do wonders.

  10. Stomach ache?  Try some jalapino peppers.  Lots of them.  Seems to burn out the infection - sort of like a scortched earth policy for the virus.

  11. I’d suggest chicken soup but that’s soooo 20th century.

Scotch. Single-malt. Islay region. Laphroaig would be just the thing.

    Lots of it.

The iodine from all that seaweed and peat has got to be good for something.

  12. Nice cup of tea, with scotch whisky, just a splash. boild egg nice and runny with bread soldiers, nice bird with big tits to bring above to you in bed, it allways works two_thumbs_up

  13. Get well soon, Skip.  Early for the flu, bad sign.

  14. Skipper, bless you.
Nyquil and Dayquil, best drugs they ever invented!
Theraflu helps too - but I think Nyquil is the best.
At least you sleep through it.
Chicken soup is still good for you, provided you do not over - do the sodium!
    FLUIDS and bedrest.
    Get better soon!

  15. I like Dayquil, Nyquil, and Theraflu too. For fever, depending on how bad it is, I’ll alternate Advil and Tylenol. Just be sure to check the ingredients in what you’re taking to make sure you aren’t accidentally doubling up on something
    Get well soon!

  16. Dr Drew recommends wonton eggdrop soup for sore throats and colds. Yeah, it looks like somebody else’s snot in a bowl, but if you’re sick enough that’s funny. Add in a good meal of Indian or Thai food - all that tumeric they use is good for you. The high level of spice will warm you up and get you going again. Bland food sucks when you’re sick - its tasteless and revolting. And if you’re gonna hurl, at least get the full technicolor benefit of exotic cuisine.

Wrap up in a blanket in front of the couch and watch anything on TV except the news. Not to worry, the world will still be a mess a few days from now. Crappy shows, old movies, even Ofra. No Dr. Phil - he makes me want to puke even when I’m well!

Throw a handful of basil or cilantro in a pot of boiling water and inhale the vapors for half an hour. Smells great and helps open up the old noser. Spend time in bed, either sleeping or reading something silly, like Terry Pratchett novels. Don’t bother to shower or shave or even brush your teeth - when you notice how bad you smell it’s a sign that you’re getting better. Feel free to rely on that most wonderful English invention, the hot water bottle. Pure heaven when you’ve got the chills.

And if all that fails, take the OTC meds and the booze like everyone else says.

  17. Skipper,

Melissa and Wardmama have just about covered the ground for healthy cures. But, I also think that somewhere in there you should have a good hot toddy. My grandfather always swore by them and he wasn’t a drinker. Anybody got the flu or a bad cold got a strong hot toddy and packed off to bed with a warm quilt. MY grandmother would smear vics vapor rub all over our chest and back and put a freshly ironed (still hot) flannel nightgown or shirt on us. A flu did not stand a chance against the combined efforts of those two. And this was in the 70’s and 80’s. So they had medicines, but, if it was good enough to raise 12 kids on during the depression it was good enough to raise grandkids and greatgrandkids and a few great-greats.
Now I mostly do the same things as Melissa and Wardmama, but, I keep the ingredients in the house ‘cause sometimes you need to bring out the big guns. God bless and get well soon.

Oh yea, Roll Tide (heavy sigh). Looks like its gonna be a long season.

    Get well soon!

  19. My Grandfather had a cure for damn near everything:
You put your hat on the bedpost furthest from your head.
    You look at it.
You take a shot of (Four Roses, Chivas, homemade Italian wine, whatever is your fancy)
    You look at the hat.
If you can see the hat, take another shot, glass, etc…
    Repeat.

    Hope you feel better.

  20. I’ve also gone the colloidal silver route (cooked up my own with electrolysis), it seems to work.  Also lots of vitamin C.

My old time favorite cold/flu cure:

Honey, lemon juice, and rum.  Add whatever mixture of those ingredients to a mug of hot tea, drink it down. Throw on some old “sweats” and go hit the sack. You’ll sweat like a pig and be in a twilight zone la-la land for a couple hours or more, but it seems to be a good early-stage bug stopper.  It also works as an insomnia cure, without having to resort to nasty prescription chemicals.

    How ‘bout them Dawgs…

  21. Skipper I hope that you are feeling better.

Peiper Thank You - came right after my son and I had an argument (we have no paycheck coming in - he wanted me to go get him McDonalds) I needed to have someone tell me I can be right.
[He would emphatically state that I am NOT always right!] You made me blush though.
    red face

Great way to get my afternoon going.

  22. WATCH A REPLAY OF THE 1992 SUGA BOWL, SKIPPER. THAT SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER. TRY TO AVOID WATCHING THE GAME TODAY, THOUGH.......
