I certainly hope the child is not scarred for life by the experience. In 12 years of public education, never did I have a teacher that I would have even dreamed of having relations with. My solution to such happenings is simple. Hire ugly, old hag, teachers.

And I didn’t even know we HAD a “beauty pageant” here in Bexar County. What stumps me is the fact that she had to go for an 18-year-old. She’s pretty and college educated...damn, she could probably have her choice of men of any age and level of personal success. But a teenager? Taking a guess here - she’s probably hung up on “control” issues or something like it.
Anyone catch that Dateline program last night(?) with LeTourneau and Fualaau? I couldn’t even make it through the highlight promo at the beginning of the program before an overwhelming wave of nausea forced me to switch channels.
Rediculous- I was under the impression if you are 18 you are a legal adult.

I have no idea of the laws in Texas, but in Florida, if you’re a teacher, any contact of a sexual nature- be it conversational, or actual, is considered inappropriate. Its akin to hunting in a baited field, except the state takes away your license to teach, and the local authorities put you in jail.
Its not like its a “he said-she said” either. When it was investigated, and it probably did long before it made the news, she was implicated. The cops usually side with the “victims”. By the time they questioned her, it was just to get “her side”, not that it mattered. Since she acknowledged impropriety, the rest doesn’t really matter. Maybe she can find a new career.
All sniggering aside about “what a lucky kid”, this is going to be bad for her.
My guess is that she’ll have to surrender her teaching license permanently. If she wanted to teach, that’s over. In education law, they don’t acquit you when you’re accused of doing something like this. They burn you. This could go on for a few years too.
The unions warn you about this, “don’t write letters to students, don’t call them, don’t trust them, etc.” The implication is that you’re finished as a teacher if it goes bad and kids are in an excellent position to mess with your life. They have popular movies showing them exactly how to do it. The local board acts first then sends it on to the state. The state board of education steps down hard. Even if she never touched him, to have made it this far is bad. The locals will make her wish she hadn’t been born.
Teachers are held to a higher moral standard than other citizens. I feel bad for her, but she had to be nuts to have trusted a student.
Being a nice looking gal, and working on a high school campus in modern-day America, she was toast long the second she became “friends” with a student.
Bummer.Don’t ask me why this one is important enough to break by silence. The injustice of the situation makes my blood boil.
This arrest is just plain wrong. Felony!?!? Inappropriate, maybe, o.k. slap someone’s wrist and forget about it. To make this a felony is just plain wrong. It is not justice. To forever mark this lady as a sexual predator or even to saddle her with a felony conviction would be a travesty of justice.
Why did she pick an 18 year old - dumb question. To quote an old girlfriend of mine: “They’re young and dumb and full of cum.” Short version, with even minimal encouragement on the part of the lady, a guy in his late teens can literally go all night. At least he can if his head isn’t screwed up by thinking that sex is something dirty.
One last thought - I was barely over 18 when I met the lady quoted above. I have very happy memories of that relationship.
Gentlemen: It is hoped that some of you recognize the sarcasm in my first post. I do disagree with the last poster though. That teacher was hired to teach student, not to seduce or be seduced by them. No statutory rape law was broken, but that teacher, no matter how attractive, was hired to teach. Anyone who thinks she should not lose her job as well as her teaching credential is on the left side of liberal.

I agree with Zelsdorf. I don’t mind the issue of sex between two consenting adults. However, all teachers know (secondary, post-secondary, continuing education, etc.) that its bad business to be screwing your students and a quick way to be fired. It completely undermines ones authority in a position of trust, not to mention it destroys the learning environment for the student involved.
Dr. Jeff, my point derives precisely from this issue. If she knew that the students are “off-limits,” it wouldn’t have taken much effort for her to find someone else or to just wait out the year AND then do the dirty with him. Besides, to go “fishing” for tail where you work shows a real lack of effort and creativity. Puhleeeese…
And I’d be willing to wager that her little relationship with the student in question started while he was still a minor. But that’s just my suspicion, take for what you will.
Oh, don’t tell me that this teacher wasn’t aware of the consequences of breaking the “rules.” Just because they were consenting adults doesn’t override legal statute. If she didn’t want to arrested as a criminal and labeled as a sex offender, she should have stuck to just teaching her students. Otherwise, if her goal is to screw 18-year-old guys, maybe she should have picked a different profession.
As me dear sainted Daddy told me many years ago, “Son, never get your pussy and your paycheck in the same place.”
