  1. When I was in the Navy we sank a yacht.

    It was sinking anyway. We answered the distress call, rescued the crew, and the dog. (that was a nice dog, he took to following us as we ran laps around the ship’s main deck for exercise) But then the damn yacht didn’t go to the bottom; just floated upside-down a bit under the water. Deeming it a hazard to navigation, the Captain took us a few hundred yards off and let our 5-inch gunners get some practice in. Took two shots (they missed the first shot) and that yacht vanished.

    A week later we were back in port and said goodbye to our passengers, and the dog.
