  1. The West has grown decadent, has spat on its defenders, has allowed them to die in misery, in abuse, and in obscurity; at the same time, they elevate the monsters and opponents to hero status and cheer them on (in spite of the fact that they would have easily killed several of their number); all the while we have forgotten our past, our ideals, and the cold gains earned by so much blood on the killing fields of Verdun, the Somme, Amiens, Vittorio-Venetio, Arkanglsk, Warsaw, Beda Fomm, Gazala, Kohima, Iwo Jima, El Alamein, Normandy, Leizpig, and the Chosin.

How many people realize that, in the blood-soaked Tennis Court of Kohima-Imphal- once a normal playing field, now a tomb- the Western Allies (mainly British and Indian) fought and died with the ruthless Japanese forces attempting to carve a way into the Indian heartland. They were stopped (thank god), but at no small cost.

How many realize that there is a memorial there, and on it a simple phrase:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.
    We will remember them.

    When You Go Home,
Tell Them Of Us And Say,
    For Their Tomorrow,
    We Gave Our Today.

    How Soon do we Forget?

How many years have we forgotten that our Cornucopia- our prosperity and liberty that those 300 years ago could scarcely imagine- was built at the cost of millions on all sides who paved the road to our prosperity with their lifeblood?

AND THIS IS THE THANKS THEY GET???

    Damn it all.

In this era, we have millions of Cheshirts- which are celebrating a mediocre man whose only distinguishing feature was his barbarity and his luck- while the name Douglass Haig- if known at all, mind you- is a byword for mindless cruelty, all facts and evidence to the contrary need not apply!

In this era, Littlewood and Chomsky are viewed as legitimate historical sources while ACTUAL historians who do not toe the line are promptly cast down to never-ever land.

In this era, we have an entire continent and many more willing to spend millions of dollars for tribute, but not one cent for defense (because that would be too costly, you see?).

In this era, at the very time we need history and ethics to guide and train us for the coming conflicts, we have come to disregard history as a mere “set of lies agreed upon” unworthy of analysis and ethics as hypocritical, outdated, and irrelevant.

In this era, we live in the cusp of information unparalleled by any time in the past, but yet know less and less.

In this era, we will tolerate unbelievable graft from civilian authorities without allowed the military to do what it must.

In this era, the mightiest nation on the planet can be brought to its knees by the strength of its media.

How can this be? How can this continue?

Jefferson said that a nation ignorant and free never was and never will be.

Right now, we are proving him wrong, though at the cost of mortgaging our own future.

The West is rotting away from the inside while our foes are waiting to swoop in and tear our fat and weak corpse apart before they fight over the spoils. And that is a damn shame.

But it will be inevitable if we continue upon this course.

For those who are unwilling to fight and kill and main and injure and die for their rights have no justification for crying when they find that themselves in shackles.

God save the West, God save Democratic-Republicanism, and God save the world’s oppressed.

Because I know not who else can.

I just needed to get that off my chest. Sorry for the rant.

  2. "Jefferson said that a nation ignorant and free never was and never will be.
Right now, we are proving him wrong, though at the cost of mortgaging our own future. “

I’m sorry to say it, but no… we are proving him right. Every day, as our ignorance increases, we sell our liberties for things that don’t exist outside of fantasy. “Fairness” is a good example. There is no such animal, and anyone who has cured their ignorance enough to be able to define “subjective” and “objective” knows it. But of course, teaching our children such things would never do. They would grow up thinking that those who set and meet an objective standard are better than those who do not, and that “isn’t fair.”

And Turtler, thank you for the rant. I suspect the only reason it has your name on it instead of mine, or wardmama’s, or Drew’s, or etc. etc. etc. is because you go here first.

  3. And even were he not an army veteran, that was still no way to treat the old man.

If we’re only hearing of it now, I wonder how much else we are in the dark about.
Good grief, whatever it is I sure hope it isn’t any worse.

  4. The good news is, no one, not even this incompetent pack of nitwits at the hospital, could take away the Brigadier’s dignity.  That was his, of his own merit.  The man was heroic and a victor.

What is demonstrated herein is the rather blatant incompetence of the people running and staffing the hospital.  The people working there obviously do not care about the work they do - which is in fact the patients with whom they deal, not the actions they perform - and the management can’t manage.

If I may be permitted a short political statement, this is the inevitable and inescapable result of ‘socialized healthcare’.

  5. Archie’s reading my mind:  This is a classic example of socialized medicine.  In fact, it’s a classic example of socialized ANYTHING.  The contents of that bag are pretty much what you’d expect to get from such a system.

Brigadier Platt’s honor is entirely intact, for he did no wrong.  Those that served him in this hospital, not so much.  Even if it’s the failure of only one person, they have besmirched, and degraded the reputation of their hospital further.

  6. Turtler as you are doubtless aware the 14th Army were known as the “Forgotten Army” even at the time they were doing the fighting. Now how many can recall the events? In Britain the £1 coin has the inscription “Standing on the shoulders of giants” How soon we forget.

However as disgraceful as this incident is I can guarantee you the future will be far worse if Britain continues down the socialist path to hell. As it is the NHS imports thousands to “do the jobs Brits wont do” they come from all over the third world. Britain’s native population is getting increasingly elderly. How well will the old people be treated in the future? I have been to Salisbury hospital for a visit and as it goes it seems a fairly decent place. I would hope this was an isolated incident though no doubt one of the most popular Labour excuses will be trotted out “lessons will be learned”

  7. I have only one disagreement with GOF - I have not sold out nor bought into fantasy - what I can’t understand is how someone who is such a fluff of Thug and Typical Politics was able to ‘win’ - I don’t believe it at all. I think that graft, corruption and election fraud is the reason that crap laws and foolish taxes and most importantly incompetent (Franken for example) politicos get into office.

We were talking today as to what exactly will be the tipping point. And when will we reach that point. What will make the difference this time, as opposed to the Great Depression or WWII - is that more and more people today are stupid, lazy and can’t do squat (as in cook, farm or make a damn thing for survival for themselves) as compared to yesteryear. They will either turn ugly (which is why we’ve stocked up on firearms) or will die off.

This story I do agree is a prime example of what is wrong with socialism. You are judged by someone else’s personal standard and if you aren’t them - well it sucks to be you. Yet they demand the best of treatment from everyone else or else. No wonder most politicians love socialism!

  8. I am appalled by this story.........I have been a nurse (now retired) for over 40 years.  Never have I witnessed this type of treatment of a patient.  I have worked OR, as a med-surg staff nurse, a supervisor and for the last 20 years of my career in an Emergency Department.
I have never witnessed this type of negligence.  A few years ago a 40 year old female was brought to my ED after relatives found that she had been kept isolated in a crib in her home by her mother (come to find out this home was 2 blocks from my home & was eventually condemned due to the living conditions).  This woman was unable to speak & her condition was deplorable - she was filthy & had newspapers as diapers.  However, once we cleaned her up in the ED and admitted her to the medical floor, the nursing staff rallied around her - they brought in clothing for her, bathed her daily, cleaned her nails, her hair & more or less adopted her until Social Services could place her in a home for continued care.  More often than not did we in the ED obtain cab vouchers for patients who arrived on our doorstep wihout transportation back home.  Over the year I treated the homeless, transients, drug dependents & drug seekers, yet each & everyone was treated as a viable human being in my ED.
I have always been so proud in my career as an RN.

  9. How deplorable… This sort of “care” happens in the USA as well.  http://tinyurl.com/yckh3j
It is against the law in the USA and the hospitals that practice patient dumping are sued and fined.
