Your post is the reason we don’t do company! I’ll do that stuff (sans the anti-pasto and booze - sober for a couple of decades now) - for us - but until we have a full time employment and crawl out from under some of this financial garbage - not feeding anyone but us.
On the other hand - just had family visit and we have food for days (so to speak)- most of it is veggies and some fruit. Works for me - fresh is about to go away and I can make soups and such from them. Nestling in our freezer - they will be ok for a week while I recover from a twisted ankle.
Hope that you all had fun. Sounds like you ate well.
In celebration of fall there was also pumpkin cheesecake.
The tri-tip came out excellent. Marinated for 4 hours in Stubb’s beef marinade, then onto the cool side of the hot grill with just one big handful of hickory chips for smoke. Crisped up perfectly. Cooked it a little long IMO, but one or two of our guests like beef well done. None of these East Coast folks had ever had tri-tip, or had even heard of it. They’re all believers now.
Did not make slab Yorkshire Pudding from the juices when I sliced it, but there was enough juice to saturate 5 pieces of bread, so I could have. We did onion roast red potatoes instead, (coat in olive oil then powdered onion soup mix then under the broiler), with garlic broccoli for a veg. A couple bottles of the new Bogle Essential Red, which is my new go-to cheap red wine. Yum. Everyone was happy and stuffed.
