Saint Saddam?

  1. Damnation, there are so many points in this article to object to, I don’t even know where to begin. Yes, Saddam destroyed his country. Sure, we supported his efforts against Iran; they were an enemey then and they’re an enemy now. Uh huh, once upon a time (under the Shah) Iran was our pal, but once the ayatollahs took over (thanks a lot Dhimmi Carter) and they attacked our embassy (an outright act of war, remember?) that was over.  Sadr’s Mehdi Army is not part of the government. They are a terrorist force. Destroy them.

I cherish all the comments posted by upstanding Brits. “Oh the execution was just terrible! Oh, it made me sick!” “it was quite disgraceful” I think it was a mistake to hang the bastage with as much class as they did. Better to have made him suffer as many ways as possible, and then totally desecrate the corpse, all in front of a huge jeering crowd. Then wait for the protest crowds to rise up and then cluster bomb them.

The reason we are “losing” in Iraq is because this administration forgot that aid, support, and rebuilding come AFTER total victory, not DURING or BEFORE it. Dur.

  2. My IDF pal, who is on vaca here in the Emerald City, puts it this way: “The Arabs can’t do anything right! Why the hell did they allow cameras and cell phones in there? Just tape it for the record and hang him!”

So right he is. There is more.

The town in which Saddam ordered all the killings, Dujail, was mostly Shi’ite of the Al Dawa political party, as is former Iraqi PM Ibrahim Al-Ja’afari, who ordered that Dujail be the first trial, and Al-Maliki who signed the death warrant even though Iraqi law forbids execution on a religious holiday (it is Eid). Exclusive footage of Saddam’s dead corpse was shown on Al Dawa’s TV channel Baladi.

Al Dawa, supported by Iran, was the only real opposition party in Iraq. Al Dawa’s attempted assassination of Iraqi foreign minister Tariq Aziz was a major factor in the Iraqi attack on Iran. During that war, Saddam had its leaders systematically murdered and they fled to Tehran.

Al Dawa also started the modern car bombing era by bombing the Iraqi Embassy in Beirut, the Freench and American Embassies in Kuwait, started Islamic Jihad, which bombed the Marine Barracks in Beirut and was the seed for Hezbollah.

All in all, a bad mix of thugs and political climbers. No wonder Iraq is such a mess with these guys in charge. Might as well have installed Al Capone as the Mayor of Chicago.

  3. You guys realize that the lunatic left who are ‘rewriting’ Saddam are the same ones who claimed that the Soviet Union - didn’t practice real communism - after all the horrors of the communist killings came to light. It is just the nature of their way, which is why decades after the Civil Rights movement we have more (proporationally) children in poverty, more minorities failing/dropping out of school, more on entitlements, more crime, a bigger divide between the haves and have nots. Because forced compassion does not increase compassion, redistribution of wealth makes those with wealth leave or hide it and forces the workers to shoulder the burden and then leads to the collapse of the society.
Happens again and again and again. The lunatic left just refuses to admit it.

I would have like to think that if we had left the Middle East alone, the technology would have lead to uprisings but it wouldn’t happen - just as in China - the clamp down by those in power is just too extreme. The people there really do not know how the rest of the world lives and the rest of the World does not know how they live. And there in is the other falsehood of the Iraq situation, the parts that are rift with violence right now, have been rift with violence for ages. Ask the soldiers who went in 2003, their stories are different than those now - the pc police have ‘altered’ the ROE and our soldiers are patsies to a violent group of people who want to control the world. And who have been killing each other for centuries.

I watched the video, saw the pictures - ugh, but I’ve seen things worse in my life. And of those situations, Saddam is the only one I felt deserved what happened to him. Listen to the pc/lunatic left every day, it doesn’t matter what happens - something is always wrong with everything. . . Terrible way to live.

  5. Peiper, I read the article. Interesting how a ranking government member of our #1 ally feels that the US was playing puppetmaster in that trial, after all we did to give that country its own government, even faster than they could handle it. And there were farcical aspects to the trial, true, but arab trials are not British or American. Your guy criticizes that the US had to keep Saddam under their wing, but doesn’t make the connection - 6 of the judges in it were killed or resigned in fear. Think old Sodd’em would have lived to the end if the Americans hadn’t been protecting him? Hell no.

And I’ve got to say it, sorry: there have been a whole lot of executions in England, for many many centuries. It wasn’t much more than 100 years ago when the peasants were getting hung or deported for stealing a loaf of bread. Y’all shot spies left and right during WWII. I don’t know when the UK gave up the death penalty, but it rather sticks in my throat hearing the “eww, gross, capital punishment” noises from the country that practically invented the gibbet.

  6. He did what??? Wait a friggin second, you Brits got rid of slavery long before we did! (what did you need it for anyway, when you had the Irish after all?) I guess next he’ll apologize to all the greenies for cutting down the forests to build the 17th century English Navy, and then to the wicca-whackos for the Roman’s suppression of the Druids?

On the news here we rarely hear the day to day bits that would show what a wienie socialist Blair is, even on our version of BBC News. We only see him being a well dressed sock puppet for Bush.
