  1. Funny how it’s the mad mullahs that are protesting. No protests from Sikhs, Hindus, Christians, Buddhists or Sinhalese just our “friends” the muslims. Hmmm why is it that they can’t assimilate? Resistence is futile apparently.

  2. Morons.  This guy had it correct.

And Lyndon:  Labour better get tossed out on its ear BEFORE England is completely taken over, otherwise it’s game over.  It may already be too late.

  3. As you said, totally predictable. But when you’ve got people like that one MP who wants to call Islamic Terrorism “un-Islamic activity,” you’re already way down the road to fucked. As P.J. O’Rourke said, they are children. They think by changing what they call something, they make it go away. But they are more dangerous than children--they are children with loaded guns. And the guns are pointed at our heads.

  4. On an only slightly related note, here’s another reason why Jolly Olde England is circling the drain. THis is almost as bad as the tool that fined an old woman for littering when she was feed birds in the park. Is there a whole govt. department dedicated to extorting fees from businesses on the flimsiest basis available?

  5. cbullitt:  These shakedown fees for playing music in public are everywhere.  ASCAP and BMI are two of the three organizations in the United States who will happily demand fees if you could possibly be publicly performing any of their songs.

    Examples:  The Sound of Silence

HOW ONE INDEPENDENT MUSICIAN DEFEATED BMI (see paragraph 7, wow...)

  6. Bullitt ... Caught that story about horses early today. Meant to post it and forgot so thanks.  Crazy huh?  But they did back off.
I never did quite understand that idea (and it isn’t a new argument) that ppl had to pay for playing a radio.  Because the station broadcasting is already paying performance royalty. But I suppose those folks will “squeeze” every penny they can, even when it defies logic or common sense.

Tiger .... re. Indy Musician link. Very interesting and brought back a memory.
I remember those BMI logs we had to fill out in between everything else we had to worry about at the time.  If you’re doing a 4 hour shift (the norm) that’s a lot of paperwork.
So .... BMI week sure did benefit those acts who were favorites you betcha. Not that anyone got rich.

Now you guys know why there’s so much public music everywhere ya go. Can’t escape it and don’t think musicians union isn’t pleased too. Altho there are a very few places I’ve been in where (thankfully) there wasn’t any music or else it was in public domain.

  7. Drew ... Thanks for posting.
I caught the bad news but just couldn’t get to it.
Late here now and only booted a short while ago.

Good line there, English isn’t the official language in England.  Guess not.

Re. Royal Mail ... Just to let the other posters here know what you already know.

We have a sorting office here that since last year sometime has been sending mail BACK to the sender.  Often enough to be very annoying.
Even when the return address is ON THE BACK of the envelope. And that’s where it gets franked, even tho there isn’t any stamp there.  But what makes things even crazier it our postman who should know by looking at the envelope. Duh.

Things are just not working here the way they should, and my next post will tell that sorry tale re. what I call Keystone Kops.  Jeesh.
