Russia wheels out the evil weapon of history, distorting facts.  So what’s new?

The Russian view now is that if only Poland had let Germany have a land corridor to Danzig

But .. Danzig was after all a German city and the corridor did cut off one part of the country from the other.  But I quibble here I know. Heff is right.  AH would indeed have annexed and the war would have just come later anyway.

  1. The Russians are feeling a bit abashed that they cannot seem to make democracy work, so, under Putin & Medvedev are trying to regain the ‘glory’ of the Soviet Union, which was, after all, the world’s best-armed third world country.

Has Poland been inducted into NATO, yet?

If so, is the rest of Europe ready to do anything more strenuous than running the white flag up the pole (no pun intended) in case they are attacked?  Or is it going to be just another installment of bowing down to the killer bear?

  2. What iffs are for fools, there were several instances where appeasement was attempted with Hitler, see how well they worked! In normal times this would be meaningless but with socialists ignoring the helm of most western nations this will gain traction without murmer, a powerful USSR would focus the krauts attention away from the depletions of the toothless EU and without the USA to pick up the cudgel they might be very focused indeed.A s for Stalin and Hitler I cant see their idealogical differences, I also dont believe Stalin was mistaken about the imminent invasion, even Churchill told him. I suspect Stalin was giving Adolf arms and food to nudge him towards England, and if the battle of Britain had been lost and the invasion taken place, whatever the outcome, all of Europe would be relitavely undefended after the massive German losses the channel crossing would entail. Stalin could have simply walked in where he wanted, being communist that would , for a while , stop at the coast.

  3. Beware those who would distort the past, for they seek to conquer the present.

It is clear that the new Russian Empire is rallying her new forces to the front.

She has already spilled blood in Chechnya, Georgia, and the Ukraine (albeit indirectly in the last one).

And now, she is massing artillery in Kalingrad.

    Wonderful.

THOSE OF YOU WHO CRY FOR PEACE: ARE YOU WILLING TO KILL FOR IT?

THOSE OF YOU WHO DEMAND THERE NOT BE A NEW CRIMEAN WAR: ARE YOU PREPARED TO STRIKE FIRST TO AVOID IT?

THOSE OF YOU WHO DESIRE EASTERN EUROPE TO REMAIN FREE: WHERE DOES RUSSIAN AGGRESSION BECOME PERFIDY THAT MUST BE ANSWERED BY WAR?

Say what you will about Cardigan and Raglan and CO:

    Yes, their logistics were pathetic

Yes, they were far too aggressive

Yes they took many unnecessary casualties

But they WERE able to, in one epic siege, destroy the Flower of the Russian military so thoroughly that they turned back the tide of Russian Imperialism for over twenty years.

But now the immortal question comes, who here, as the French Fascists crooned, “wants to die for Danzig?” Who here is willing to lay down their lives and the lives of their compatriots for the liberty of people on the other side of the continent?

The answer is what shall shape the history of the world for decades to come.

Let us prove worth of it.
