Thank you for posting about this Allan. You are absolutely right. We’re doomed if we continue to fight politically correct wars.
Patton said it best:
“There is only one tactical principle which is not subject to change. It is to use the means at hand to inflict the maximum amount of wound, death, and destruction on the enemy in the minimum amount of time.”
And Patton learned it in France in 1918 from General John Pershing who learned it from General Ulysses Grant who invented it.
Then along came General Westmoreland and Robert MacNamara who proceeded to forget it all.
DAMN!
Allan: “Thanks to Ronald Reagan, we rebuilt the military in the 1980’s and managed to give our troops some measure of pride back to them.”
Then Clinton all but tore it down again. He was my Commander-in-Chief, and I saw the downsizing and base closures first hand. He was the main reason I did not re-enlist.
INC: I agree 100%. I saw it too. We have slipped back to the bad old days. Bush and Rumsfeld haven’t had enough time to repair all the damage yet but a good start would be to adopt my rules of warfare.

Send the following message to a peace-puke who is asking for ways to protest “THE WAR”
1. Select a broom and saw off the handle
2. Do not use sandpaper or KY Jelly
3. Drop skivvies and position broomhandle
4. Shove it up your ass.
I AM SOOOO HAPPY !!!
(For you, my Beatrice 9 18 27)
A ‘politically correct war” is a contradiction in terms.
Clausewitz: “War knows of only one method: force. There is no other; it is destruction, wounds, death, and this employment of brute force is an absolute rule.....
“To introduce into a philosophy of war a principle of moderation would be an absurdity. War is an act of violence pushed to its utmost bounds.”
No one ever accomplished anything worthwhile by doing things by halves.
pacifists believe that if you continue to feed steaks to a tiger, it will eventually become a vegetarian.
we still need to tattoo the koran on a pig though…
One question. Has anyone commenting or running this site ever served in the military or more importantly served in Iraq? If not, then respectfully, you don’t really know what you’re talking about. Patton, Pershing, and Grant had it easy. All three were fighting standing armies. No Cold war nuclear armageddon hanging over their heads. No overtly hostile press and opposition political part(read:treasonous). No increasingly decadent society undercutting their support. Patton, Pershing, and Grant knew who their enemy was, saw their enemy, and preceded to kick ass.
Here in Iraq, we have been kicking ass and taking names for two years now. And their is steady progress across the board and else where.
All I can say is, if only we were targeting the reporters! Atleast Al Reuters, CNN and Al Jezeera.
Matt, check the bios. I spent 26 years in the military.
You obviously are new to the blog in that you’re not a regular daily reader to imply some of the things you do.
Everything you mention are the things we rail about daily. We’d just as soon ban all reporters from any hostile zone. I personally have no problem with some of them being taken out. Sometimes they are our own (and your) worst enemies.
You really need to read us a bit more and you will see that we are probably the most positive blog out there about the job our troops are doing in that hellhole called Iraq.
I also served, as well as a majority of the guest commenters at this site, Matterson. You really need to get more info about us (read the posts and comments). Vilmar and I run one of the most staunchly supportive of our troops blog sites on the internet. We also correspond regularly with several troops in Iraq and are highly aware of the situation. Most of the information I included in my post about Iraq came from Army and Marine troops over there. I realize good progress is being made and I commend all troops over there for a job well done. My problem is not with the troops but with the way the war is being fought. Yes, this is not Grant or Sherman or Patton’s war. That was the whole point. Different wars call for different tactics and strategies. I was only questioning whether the overall strategy is the right one for this battle against insurgents.
Matterton, as a former Marine who served in Somalia, I am behind you and your fellow troops 100%. I know what it is like to not know who the enemy is when he is a chicken-shit coward who hides amongst women and children.
Like Allan and Vilmar said, we are concerned about the high level officers determining your rules of engagement etc. and how your hands are being somewhat tied. While the situation of this war is different, the concept of war is the same: Beat the enemy into submission to the point where they have no choice but to capitulate or face utter and complete destruction.
I have said from day one of the Iraq invasion that one of the first targets should have been the Al Jazeera building, and Ollie North be the only “journalist” allowed to be embedded with the troops.
Semper Fi, may you return home safely, and kill a few ragheads for me.
Deal me in. I was a Marine infantryman (0351) in 1965 Vietnam. Vilmar & Allan are correct.
Anybody who shoots because has reason to feel threatened, gets the benefit off every doubt, and then some. If you have not been shit-your-skivvies scared, you don’t know. The only way to be 100% certain is to let them kill you. NOT Marine Corps policy.
Brother, keep up the good work.
USN 67-73.
I fully support the troops and I’m furious with the asshats in the MSM at home and abroad who are undermining everything they do and never mentioning the things they do right or the courage and bravery in the face of fire shown daily.
This site regularly posts links to the good news stories that do manage to get through, usually local “home town” papers. Alan and Vilmar help spread the word.
I am also furious when politicians make decisions that endanger their lives, tie their hands with ROE that endanger them or throw away their accomplishments for political niceties.
You don’t know us, Matterson. Even some of the ladies here have served. Perhaps you will reconsider your remarks.
I see that some of this thread disappeared in the server crash. I’m glad I read the email notifications.
You’re allright, Matterson. We all make mistakes from time to time. Here it is the middle of March and I’ve made at least one already.
Yeah, I thought I was wrong about something, but I wasn’t.
Take care of yourself. We do appreciate what you’re doing and wish you every success as well as hope you come home hale and hearty.
We know that the MSM is lying, at least by omission, and we call ‘em on it at every opportunity. We know that the good news rarely filters through. That’s why most of us read the Mil-Blogs and the ones that do pass on the good news and successes.
I don’t know if you know it or not, but heads have rolled in the MSM due mostly to bloggers. Eason Jordan badmouthed and lied about the miltitary and he’s now looking for a new job.
Keep doing a good job and we’ll take care of the fifth columnist bastards at home. We’ve got ‘em on the run, too.
Stop by when you get the chance and keep us up to date on what’s happening if you can.
