WOW! Thanks for sharing. I love historical news!!!!!!!!!
AD .. so do we. One of the things about being in this country is the almost everyday find of antiquity. About two yrs ago an old bldg. in Winchester opposite the library was demolished to make way for a small apt. complex and coffee shop. Well, no surprise being that Winchester itself was founded by the Romans, when the crew started clearing away old bricks and debris there were ppl from the archaeological society on hand and they found an old Victorian street buried there and then some Roman artifacts as well. The site was covered by a huge tarp and then a wooden fence with cut outs so ppl could look in. When a find is made the construction stops and the archeologists are then given X number of months to do their dig and bring things up. They also post info on the wood wall with photos of their finds with brief descriptions of what everything is. I would watch them work and scape away at the dirt, but had no really good angle to take photos.
This kind of thing happens all over the country. They have even found Viking artifacts.
Very informative & makes sense, once it’s pointed out. Unlike other human structures, it won’t rust, rot, or fall down.
So, what is stopping us from building indestructible roads now?
My best guess: government unions.
