1. There was a recent program here in the UK featuring the MG42 with survivors of WW2 who still shudder at the sound it made. The thing is it did have a high rate of fire but when you pump a lot of bullets down the tube the barrel tends to get a bit toasty and pretty soon you get to find out just how hot it is because it has to be replaced. They compared the MG42 to the Czech designed Bren gun. The conclusion was that though it had a higher rate of fire the Bren was superior weapon.
