  1. This was funny the first time I saw it (at the theater if memory serves).

“Computer… Computer… (McCoy hands Scotty the mouse) Aye. Hello computer.”—Scotty, “Just use the keyboard.”—G’vnr Nichols, “Keyboard. How quaint.”—Scotty, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

  2. Congrats on your superior colon, even if it is a little polypy.  gulp

  3. Very glad to learn your pipes are OK, Skip!  My turn on 9/9—only THIS time he’s gonna scope the gullet too! (first time) Certainly hope he changes scopes if the gullet(EGD)is SECOND!

  4. Been through colonoscopies several times.........One question - Did you enjoy the prep? tongue wink The colonscopy is a breeze - the prep is horrendous!!!!!!

  5. Dottie, this was my second “experience”. You’re right. The prep was ten times as bad as the actual operation. I can barely wait five years before my next scheduled repeat.

    LOL

  6. One of my former customers made the endoscopy equipment for operations like that. I believe that they made every variety that there is.

It’s very interesting to see the gear. I’m sure it’s less interesting to be the “beneficiary” of the equipment.

I still cringe when I recall the stuff they made for male urology work and the glee with which the young lady showed me the stuff. There was a heartless wench.

  7. FYI, I’ve had two done.  The first prep (in early 1990s) was HORRENDOUS.  The last (late 1997) wasn’t bad at all!  Upcomming prep appears to be very similar to last.

  8. My mom had to have one recently.  She couldn’t eat solid foods, which drove absolutely nuts (no pun intended), and on top of that, she had to have three bottles of this laxative stuff (I forgot the name of it).  My poor mother spent the majority of the day before on the toilet.  Luckily, there wasn’t anything.  The reason she had it so young (she’ll be forty-eight in October) is so the gastroenterologist could rule out some things.

  9. I loved the original Star Trek series.  Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search For Spock were my favorite Star Trek movies.

  10. Stin - I was an OR nurse many years ago - often had to assist in the cysto room - know first hand about the urology equipment!  These days cystos are done without general anesthesia....... I have also had several colonoscopies such as the Captain had this week - I always had conscious sedation anesthesia - Versed & Demerol.......With these drugs the patient is awake but will not remember anything about the procedure - Versed is an amnesiac type of medication..........it is amazing!  We often use these same drugs in my Emergency Dept. to reduce dislocated hips & shoulders and to intubate patients......Medical procedures have come a long way - many procedures are now done without general anesthesia and the patient is better off this way.........

  11. Hey Allan - just wondering where you had your colonoscopy done - since you are working for SSM, was it at St. Mary’s on Clayton Rd.?

  12. I understand that there have been advances in medicine, Dottie, but if I’m awake they better have some big nurses to hold me down if anybody comes near my pee-pee with that big damn catheter they showed me at ACMI. Their instrument is damn near half the diameter of my “instrument” and I understand spacial relationships. AND pain. That looks like PAIN.

Dad had the “roto rooter” prostate surgery done on him some years ago. He didn’t know what he was in for and I didn’t tell him. LOL It was certainly better than the old fashioned way, though. Much quicker recovery.

I happen to have a biopsy retriever that they gave me. A handy little gadget for getting into tight places to grab something. They told me it was the “boy’s” model and I didn’t think that was too bad until they showed me that catheter. ARGH. gulp

    LOL

  13. Don’t make me cringe so bad!  Big Boy went and hid and now I can’t find him....no comments, please!  My wife is a nurse in a ‘scope center.  I hate the war stories....

Scotty, I miss him already, but you know, he’s touring the stars now, man I loved Star Trek.  It’s just terrible that we don’t have any more new ST on TV any more.
