   Defiant Conservative leader Stephen Harper called on Governor General (GG) Adrienne Clarkson to step in and declare Parliment dissolved.

   Instead, Martin pleaded to wait till next Thursday, refusing to quit.  Martin said, “If the budget is defeated, this would show a lack of confidence in the government and an election will be held.

   John Darkow hit the nail on the head.  How could “American Idol” become a news story?
