My Dad was born and raised there,been about 20 some years since I’ve been there.Not always the most pleasant place to be.Early word is he went off his meds.He has been active with the Nazis-Skinhead groups etc..big Marilyn Manson fan.Makes me wonder whats been going on up there these past years.

2. Damn shame no one on the school staff was a Concealed Handgun Permit carrier and was able to put that little shit down.

   We are all at the tender mercies of the criminal element.  All I want is a level playing field.  Some thug comes into my school, I want the ability to defend myself and my students.

3. Apparently, he drove a truck through a set of doors with metal detectors to gain access to the building.  Killed a security guard and a teacher as well as several students; some of whom died of their wounds later on.

   Reports this morning that he made similar threats about a year ago and was being watched!!!

7. Ahhh… The stuff I’ve read about this indicate that his grandfather, who he lived with (and shot just before the school spree) was a policeman and the source of the firearms.

   So… this is a counter-example to all those who say “outlaw guns and only let the police have ‘em”.  Right?

All levity aside, MrJimm is right...and we will continue to read of such tragedies as this, unless something can be done about whatever is going on inside the minds of such kids.  How did it get there?  Where did it come from?  Unless something can be done about that, you may turn schools into camps patrolled by armed guards (as indeed some schools now are), and you will still achieve little or nothing on balance.

9. The violent types will always be there - and they are not limited to US society, either. They are in all societies. You don’t hear about them in most other countries, though, as they are either random criminal thugs or the law itself.

10. I have a carry permit.  I occasionally pack iron, but I’m damned careful with any firearm—especially a pistol. With a pistol it’s easy to have your finger on the trigger and the muzzle pointed at your head.  I would not be crazy about every numbnutz on the street carrying—arguments over car accidents turning into shootouts.

    I dunno… maybe we should license people to carry, not the guns.

    (I was a Marine infantryman in VNam—had a buddy who accidentally shot himself in the head with a .45)

13. I have heard of at least one case from 1956 or 1957, involving a high-school student who was found to have 3 sticks of dynamite in his locker.

    When called into the superintendent’s office and asked just why in hell he had that dynamite in his locker, he smiled and said, “Goin’ fishin’.”

    These days, they would not have such honest intentions.
