  1. Did he rule that reciting is unconstitutional, or enforcing recitation is? There is a difference. Prayer in school is not prohibited, only the school’s enforcing prayer.

See here for a thorough discussion of church, state and the Constitution.

  2. That does it, when I home-school my kids, I am going to start the school day with a prayer and with the Pledge of Allegiance and have them end it with a military-style salute (I learned how to do that in the second grade).

Oh, am I going to have some fun…

  3. It’s true, that the “Under God” was tacked on the the 1950’s to help fight godless Communism.  Didn’t seem to help.  (Reagan and JP2 Got’R’Done.)
I’ve heard the argument that people should not be made to feel uncomfortable.  e.g. atheists should not feel excluded from America by religious observance. Deal: don’t be offended by the mention of God; I will happily ignore your atheism. Who knows?  With all the shit the courts are finding in the Constitution, maybe there’s a clause about the right not to be offended.  Written in invisible ink; you can see it only when you piss on the Constitution.
Free Speech as long as no one is offended.
Boy-oh-boy!  Would a certain potential porkchop be in trouble ...

Hear here the words I live by:

IF YOU’RE NOT FREE TO MAKE MISTAKES—YOU’RE NOT FREE

  4. This reminds me of the midget vertically challenged fellow who married a tall girl. When asked, he said: “My friends put me up to it”.

It appears that Nudow is putting his friends up to it.

  5. Part of the issue as I see it is that the courts have decided that anyone being offended constitutes a violation of their right to not be offended? Make sense?

Someone, somewhere, is going to be offended by something someone else considers commonplace. The end of our country and way of life is being litigated today.

    Sad, but true.

  6. Do I have any standing because I’m offended by their taking offense? How far does this go?

  7. This ruling will not stand.  Bide your time.  The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is, thank Heaven, regularly overturned, and it will be overturned this time, too.  Chalk this down as another leftist dinosaur playing to the local gallery of fellow misfits and marginals.

    wink

  8. Um, you mean the 9th CIRCUS Court of Appeals! cool grin

  9. I heard some prophet said there would be three major disasters during this time.

    2 have already happened.

One would hope the earth opening up and swallowing the 9th circuit along with certain other parts of California in the next couple of weeks would fulfill this prophecy and our cycle of crunchin’ for a while. I hope its only 3. Losing the 9th would be an improvement but I do hope its the last smackdown we get for a decade or 2.

If its the homes of the “7 deadly sins” it could get really ugly.

    1) Avarice - 911 - (Wall Street).
    2) Sloth - Hurricane Katrina (New Orleans was a place CALLED “THE BIG EASY” - complacency in the face of a known threat).
    3) Envy - WMD - (Washington DC,where everyone envies and seeks to bring down everyone else)
    4) Wrath - Milwaukee, Baltimore, or Philadelphia torn apart by race riots and thousands die.
    5) Pride - The Great Earthquake (San Francisco where everyone is proud of being an abomination)
    6) Gluttony - WMD/Earth Quake - (Los Angeles/Hollywood)
    7) Lust - Nuked - Las Vegas.

Nope. Not good. Not good at all. Gonna be ugly.

Macker, that is “The Snort of 9 Circus Seals”.

  10. I’m curious about your selections for #4, Babylonandon. Why those cities? I could think of some more likely race riot locations.

I’m thinking DC qualifies on all counts.

  11. Hmm, I wonder if Newdow is seeking his fortune. Did you know that under the 1976 Civil Rights Attorney’s Fee Awards Act if he wins it’s like he hit the lottery? This is what’s been driving the ACLU to file all the establishment clause suits. They either win and get the fees or they force a settlement and get fees. Win/win for them.

Legislation is pending to cure this ill.

  12. I can remember.

It was Family Day, the day right before I graduated from basic training.  We did some big presentation for the families and we opened it up with a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.  The civilians put their hands on their hearts, whereas us military folk did a hand salute.

I learned the Pledge in grade school, and I know it to this day.

  13. Huh...I think the last time I said it was at my Eagle Court of Honor. Don’t say it too often anymore. Although it was nice when it was done at the Redlands Bowl - the audience said it AND sang the National Anthem. That was really cool. Hell, some people even sang parts (like me!).
