3. I worked for another Italian cruise ship line back in the 90s. They did have Israeli nationals as on-board Security. Although you couldn’t tell, everyone knew they were carrying, and everyone on board was grateful for that. (I could tell. Among us, gun carriers, we can recognize the armed person look, the “be nice to everyone but be prepared to kill everyone in the room, if it’s needed” attitude), I befriended most of them, good people. They started hiring Israeli security after the Achille Lauro incident (liner from a sister company), and the threat, from the very beginning, was from Islamic Radicals. They had good instincts on detecting them from a mile away.
   
   “Pinto said pistols were handed out to security staff and they opened fire on the pirates when they tried to clamber up the sides of the ship.” - I call it BS, the pistols were already in their possession, as they always are.
