Frankly, sans finding a Mayan stela in Georgia, I don’t believe it either.
Not to say that Mayan ideas didn’t influence others. I’m sure there was more trade/interaction between pre-Columbian peoples than we give credence to. I don’t see why Mayan ideas wouldn’t have influenced native Georgian tribes.
After all, Thor Heyerdahl showed by his two Ra expeditions and his Kontiki expedition that such long-range cultural influence was/is possible.
