Hey, the Myth Busters did it.
They’re not just SHARKS-they’re Great White Sharks.
That area aint called the “Red Triangle” for nothing.
I toured San Francisco Bay back in March 1999. Wonderful! And the boat I was on went to the Golden Gate Bridge, turned back around, went around the Rock, but didn’t dock there. I sure would love to go back and go to Alcatraz!
One thing though: as soon as I got back to the terminal at Fisherman’s Wharf for the cable car, there was this HUGE ASS EXPLOSION across the bay...one of the oil refineries had a raging fire.
The next day gas went up 25 CENTS PER GALLON! What a way to remember San Francisco!
Nice picture, Captain!
Are you the Canon PowerShot Pro1 or is that the camera you used?
I loved San Francisco, but I could never get over seeing such an exquisite city besmirched by bums everywhere I looked. They are a virus there. It was like looking at a work of art covered with birdshit.
In 1974, I met an ex-Marine who had taken up nightclub singing. He was fond of this parody:
A lovely girl named Alice,
Gave me a mule one day,
It was the cutest burro
With the cutest little bray.
I got drunk and silly,
Lost it in the city,
Lost my burro in the City by the Bay.
I lost my ass
In San Francisco,
It was a foggy, rainy afternoon,
Oh, where oh where do donkeys go,
I miss my burro so,
The daisies know,
But they won’t tell,
So what the hell?
If you should go
To San Francisco,
And a donkey you chance to meet,
Please wrap your arms around
My little burro,
And you can kiss my ass for me.”
With most sincere apologies to Tony Bennett.
The difficulty these days might be sorting any one donkey out of the herd.
Phoenix: The PowerShot Pro1 is the camera. It is an 8 MegaPixel sweet piece of machinery. Since I took this picture I have finally mastered all of its many features. Here is a link to info on the camera.

The area around San Fran, down Hwy 1, from Marin County down to Carmel and Big Sur is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Downtown Frisco is a horrible slum let go to waste and populated by panhandlers and lower life-forms while Oakland is a vision of Dante’s Inferno. Hwy 101 down to San Jose is a giant parking lot most days.
It’s a nice place to visit but I’d never consider living there.
This picture made me hungry for some reason. Visions of sourdough bread and seafood.
Everone should try Little Joe’s on Broadway.

Captain,
Your camera is definitely sweet. Whew! 8 megapixels? Yow. Yep, the manuals that come with these babies are 501 courses in themselves.
I agree with you about that section of California. Breathtaking. I might put the mountains of Kentucky, W.VA, and VA in first place though for divine beauty.
Nice pic Allan.......How much time do I have to tell about my first ever trip to San F.?? My friend took me there a few years ago & it was so wonderful!! We stayed in Oakland across the Bay Bridge, visited the Wharf, Sausolito, the Muir Woods, Point Reyes Lighthouse ( 300 steps down to the lighthouse & “groan” 300 steps back up)......We drove along the coast north of the city and each bend in the road was more spctacular than the one before. He took me through Treasure Island where he served in the Navy (He is from another country & was sent to Treasure Island by his country to learn & observe the US Navy). We visited Alcatraz, the Presidio, walked on the Golden Gate Bridge, visited the Palace of Fine Arts & China Town - In China Town we saw these little figurines in a shop window engaged in sexual acts & to this day regret that we didn’t buy one I so want to go back & explore areas south of San F. & he says we will do that in the future..........
