  2. Cottonmouth

“Cottonmouth snakes are poisonous and extremely aggressive. They get the name cottonmouth because when they prepare to strike they open their jaws wide, exposing the puffy white lining of their mouths. Alligators only get aggressive during mating season, but cottonmouths are in a constant state of PMS - they not only will NOT run away from you, they will seek you out and chase you down.”

Frank: The first attempt with the spade just made him mad.  It took over ten hits to cut this guy in half, which only made his head even more upset.  It took 20 minutes for the head to die.  My spade has now been sharpened like a knife.  snake

  6. Jim:  Isn’t that “pinching your head”?

Twerp:  My neighbor Feather Dance took the snake for the other animals to eat.  It spewed about 1/2 cup of venom out, so it should be pretty tasty now.

We had to kill it because there are too many little kids around here.

  7. Z, do you ever see any diamondbacks?  The dry piney flats of Florida are alive with them still, aren’t they?

  8. Z Wolf - you are so brave to get that snake!  I am petrified of snakes, even tho where I live there would be a small chance of seeing them.........

  9. Tan:  I’ve heard we have diamondbacks but I haven’t seen one yet.  I did escort a corn snake out of the neighborhood so my wife would know it wouldn’t come back.  They aren’t poisonous but they look like a rattlesnake.  The most common snakes I have seen are black racers, they arn’t poisonous either.

After battling this cottonmouth I’m going to pay more attention to where I step.

  10. Good idea, Z.  Hope you don’t encounter a diamondback.  Strictly bad-tempered and bad news.  There are plenty down east in this state as yet.  Never catch me hiking on dry and thickety ground down there.

  11. Wow.

  12. I mean wow, just in general, not to something you said, OCM.  I just looked at that comment and it’s just under yours, and it looks like I was sayin “wow” to your comment “diamondbacks are in AZ” but I was jus sayin wow in general.

    wow

  14. Do any of you know what type of shovel this is?  Do you notice the sand on the blade?

Where I grew up on the West Coast (Washington State) the was called a M1A1 Clam Gun; used for digging razor clams.  Ah! The ingenuity of the American Combat Soldier or Marine.
