  1. The weather is here, wish you were beautiful.

  2. Egh don’t remind me. Apparently in this painfully blue state of Maine none of the housing authorities believe in central A/C (Including the friggin NAVY for crying out loud. Crappy base housing *grumble*)

At any rate, that’s a lovely picture smile

  3. What sweltering? 90-100 is nothing. Think what our troops are going through in Iraq.

  4. Don’t sweat it Christopher. The high today in Baghdad was only 113. The temps tonight are supposed to drop down to a chilly 83. High temps mean the insurgent bastards are moving slower due to the heat and most of their dirty work is done at night and our troops have some amazing night-vision goggles, dont’cha know. Altogether, it may mean more bad guys get lead poisoning.

    LOL

  5. In my neck of woods, it isn’t the heat so much as the damned humidity.  Those high-pressure domes drop anchor off the eastern seaboard and begin dragging up sweltering tropical air and spreading it all over us like so much goop.  Good old Bermuda High!  What would a Carolina summer be without it?

red face  (sweltering in the sun)

  6. That dog reminds me of a friend’s dog. He was a red Golden Retriever. That one sure looks a lot like him. Good dog with a sense of humor and a yen to haul ass down the street if he had the opportunity. LOL

  7. One of my nieces had a golden retriever for many years.  Splendid dog, albeit spoiled rotten.  He was big outdoors, and he got a lot bigger indoors, but he was the best-natured old goof of a dog that I ever saw.

  8. Virginia is having one of those days that makes you want to live in this gorgeous state.  My house is 72 degrees, and I just went outside and noticed it was cooler outside.  No humidity.  ahhhhhhhhh....  Have to enjoy it while it lasts.....  The Dog Days will be here soon enough… gasp.

  9. I think our high today was in the 90’s here in central Virginia, but if you stayed out of direct sun, it was dry enough to be very pleasant.  Won’t last long though, will it Phoenix?  Count our blessings while we may.

  10. High of just over 100 degrees here today… lows in the mid to upper 70s (supposedly - it’s almost 9 pm here, and still 92 degrees outside).

Highs expected to hit 104 as the new week progresses…

  11. I have an air conditioner; the weather is great here inside the house.

  12. For the record, I like the picture, I like its use as a topic of conversation, and I like the sense of fellow-feeling I find among those of us who respond civilly and socially, on this topic and on any other.

  13. If the shoe fits, wear it.

  14. Dick,

Yes...definately we need to appreciate these days.  Just think...in a few weeks we’ll leave our houses, get into our cars and our sunglasses will fog up.  oh UGH… Plus, as we wipe off our glasses we’ll be shifting around to cool off our cooked buns from a very hot seat.  ow!

    JST,

I hope you don’t have humidity with those temperatures!  sheesh.

    Tanny,

Having spent much time in SC, I know what you’re talking about.  The humidity rests itself ON you.  eeeesh.....

  15. Z,

I forgot you !!  I’m going to steal that line.  ha ha....  funny. funny.

  16. Yes, Phoenix, like a greasy film that smothers you.

Hope you’re doing OK.  I’ve been saving another haiku for you.

    Horizons of dreams
Like the sky bounded with clouds
    Changing endlessly.

    Kindest regards as always.

  17. Severa- Where are you in Maine?  At the Brunswick Air Station? I will be going on up to Maine in September. One of my favorite places is Bailey Island which I would drive to through Brunswick...........Not sure at this point if I will be going on up to Bailey Island......depends on the amount of time I will be able to spend in Maine after spending some time with my sister on Block Island, R.I. & a friend in Massachusetts.  I will be spending time with my Dad in Alfred, Maine & photographing lighthouses along the coast of Maine in Portlanf & Boothbay Harbor.........I love Maine - if it weren’t for my family here in Missouri, I would consider retiring in Maine...........

  18. Dottie - Yeah we’re at NAS Brunswick base housing, up at Topsham Annex next to the commissary. But they’re starting to tear down these houses and building anew.

Course with that AND the idea of the BRAC commission wanting to ‘realign’ the base and sending all of us P-3 folks to Jacksonville (when will that happen if it goes through? who knows....) things are reallly fun around here. *L*

It’s ok here, I gripe about base housing and the lack of A/C AND gutters on the houses, but really the schools here have been wonderful for our kids. I can’t complain on that front.

  19. Severa..........have you explored the area just north of the Brunswick NAS?  I think it is Route 24 & it goes through 3 islands........Orrs Island, Harpswell & then you come to Bailey Island...........There is a restaurant by name of Cook’s Lobster House just over the crib bridge on to Bailey Island............I have eaten there so many times - it is one of my favorite places..........then drive up onto Bailey Island to Land’s End - there is a neat gift shop there plus gorgeous views out into the ocean............I would like to go on up to Bailey Island when I am up there in September but am not sure if my time will allow it............I will be photographing the lighthouses around Portland, Cape Elizabeth and Boothbay Harbor....plus I must spend some time with my Dad, who lives in Alfred & my friend who lives in Bridgeton.............so much to do, so little time!!!!!!!

  20. *L at Dottie* We just moved here in Dec. TOO much snow this winter to do any real exploring. Maybe this summer we can get out more.
