  1. I couldn’t agree more. Smart women are the hottest. Well, come on, it doesn’t hurt if they have great figures or really noticeable faces, but women who have plenty of smarts are just more enjoyable to be around.

Is that sexist? Not sorry. But I’ll expand that thought some: smart people are more enjoyable to be around because they are far less boring. They are also far more likely to appreciate a good pun, to instantly spot an obscure film or literature quote, and to be able to spot arcane parallels between different life events. Plus they’re often up on the news, politics, world situations, technological developments, and so forth.

Compared to the sluggards who seem to have half the intelligence of a box of antlers, I’ll stick with smart people thank you.

As to her thesis ... the cult of Narcissus certainly existed in ancient Greece. But let us not forget that this was a manual age to begin with; people walked everywhere and used their muscles for almost all the work. So people in general were in better physical condition, assuming they had enough to eat. Warriors needed exceptional upper body strength to be effective fighters, and they probably were totally ripped in the core, the glutes, and the thighs from carry all that armor and stuff around. So if the pretty boys took that as a base condition and went upwards from there, you bet, you’d have some fine beefcake. Either that, or they barely had enough to eat and went around partially dehydrated most of the time because their water sucked. That would keep them looking cut too. The statue guy there isn’t all that ripped and huge; he’s really no more massive than your typical european soccer player. And he’s thin enough to have the “hip thingy” all the ladies go ga-ga over. It seems a little bit naughty that this lady has specialized in this area, doesn’t it?

  2. I just discovered an entire series (YT) she’s done and spent the last three hours watching Sparta, rise and fall.
She does a great job of narration, but I’m always bugged by the sound effects & music used in videos. I’ve also just bought her book on Helen of Troy.

There’s another lady historian (older) who I worship for her writing and her scholarship.
Margaret MacMillan. Awesome times 10. She isn’t as young and pretty but doesn’t have to be to qualify as hot stuff, in the most respectful sense.
