Pearl Harbor Day

  1. My dad switched his Army (resigned in 1940) Reserve contract and then joined the Navy Reserve - went overseas (Pacific) in 1944. Sad that as a child, girl child at that - I never asked about his service - I only remember once he opened his trunk (I now have both - mother changed contents) - with his Rising Sun flag, samurai sword (broken) and his pictures. It is a real shame that some of us don’t appreciate history until it is too late.

  2. My Father was evacuated from the South Pacific to a Navy hospital in Georgia.  In July, 1945, his brother Jim came to visit him.

My Uncle Jim was working on some hush-hush deal in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.*

My Dad was bitching about how this goddam war with the Japs was going to drag on forever.

Jim looked at him and said, “It’s gonna be over a whole lot quicker than you think it will!”

  3. Nice catch on the ‘we are not worthy thing” Drew.
In other news ,although we stopped the japs, the nazis and held off the ruskies for 50 years we are about to be communized by the EPA. I think total control over the air we breath is kind of a big deal but Im just a neocon troll I guess.

  4. Chops - My hubby’s grandfather did the electrical wiring on the Enola Gay - small world.

No Rich - you are not a neocon troll - Read Michelle Malkin today (Tuesday) as Ms Jackson’s EPA did a Climategate insuring that all the ‘data’ supported her ‘theory’. And they have a 600 page list of all the things that the EPA wants to control from us ignorant and evil people.

As MM pointed out - The Won - ‘In April, President Obama declared that “the days of science taking a back seat to ideology are over.” Another day, another broken promise.’ So much for transparency, ethics, change, We The People having any control of the Klownposse in DC and more importantly truth in our government.

I just have two more things to say - When are We The People going to rise up and stop this bs America & Freedom destroying Thugocracy. And two - God Help America - as too many of her citizens are just sitting by, figuring on someone else to stop it.

  5. Wardmama—my Uncle Jim died in his 50’s of leukemia—you always wonder.  The only story he ever told about his work was that there were some buildings that you exited thru a shower, leaving all clothing behind.

All praise and honor to those who fought WW2.  The war itself sucked sh*t, as do all wars.

  6. My husband’s uncle died of cancer too - one has to wonder if it had anything to do with his service in Vietnam. Those I know who served - never really talked about it much at all - whether WWI, Vietnam or now GWOT.

And my dad had a friend who remained devoted to him - as a young kid I thought it was just because they went to war (although Navy Docs, not quite like everyone else’s going to war) but it turned out that he got captured by the Japanese and my dad & a Navy nurse (who became his wife) were among the first Americans to get to him and treat him after he was re-captured by the Americans. I think he would have done anything for my dad - and did alot for us (his kids) through the years. His daughter stayed with us for a summer - great and enduring friendships forged in the horror of war.

Yes we owe so much to those who fought for and are fighting for our freedom.
