  1. No great surprise here.  The self-proclaimed “peaceniks” of my college days were just as ready to beat up anybody who got in their way, in classic stormtrooper style.

If you would not allow yourself to be gracefully shouted down, then you should watch out for your teeth--or your ass, whichever they could get to first.

Their antics on latter-day college campi are, of course, legion.

As in the beginning, so are they now and ever shall be.

  3. And this wacko needs to have his butt kicked and I’m betting there’s a bubba in the joint that’ll take care of it!!!

  5. Now, now........

OCM, please note that you are the first one to raise your voice here. You are also the first to start the name calling bit.

    Cease and desist, lad.

That is one of the reasons I have come to the conservative side, any of my old liberal pals start the name calling right off the bat.

You homework assingment is to go here

    The Frivolity of Evil

and read it. What I took away from Mr. Dalrymple is that we have the lost the ability to be civil and have civil discourse.

  6. OCM, what’s up dude? I’ve looked at the comments and can’t find any real reason for you to be so upset at everyone. We’re all friends here, ain’t we? Chill, please. There are no wackos here (at least I don’t think there are).

    LOL

  7. OCM, I agree. There is a diverse crop of people in the world and this good old planet is painted in 64 shades of gray, not black and white.

With that said however, I think what the guys were saying above is that a majority of gun owners are responsible, that a majority of peaceniks are radical (or just plain stupid), and that a majority of environmentalists are tree-hugging hippies with no real understanding of the interactions of nature.

There are definite trends in people’s behavior because of the herd instinct. Once someone comes up with a stupid idea and starts to share it, others join in and before you know it you have asshats in large groups acting weird.

The “peacenik” in the story above is an example of a war protestor with a lot of wrong ideas in his head and a bad attitude, to boot. He does more harm to the anti-war movement than good with his behavior. It has been my observation that too many of the anti-war protestors exhibit this kind of weird behavior which makes me question their integrity and their true motives in working for their movement.

It also seems to me that the Leftists like this cat are the ones thinking in black and white, i.e., the war is wrong .. PERIOD .. no argument, no discussion, no deviating from that point. They refuse to admit that there might be a valid reason for war (like self defense). That demonstrates to me a moral stand that is based on tenuous arguments, at best.

I have always felt that one’s attitude should always be adjustable and negotiable but one’s convictions should be based on facts and should be altered only if the facts change. These demonstrators exhibit an unchanging attitude and a complete lack of conviction of any sort due to distorted or unsubstantiated facts.

I understand your position. Do you understand mine?

    cool smile

  8. OCM: I’ve known you too long to ban you from the site. We understand each other too well for that. I also know you too well to harass you about your style and/or language. Your occasional “hairballs” are entertaining (and educational) for me. Yes, you’re a grumpy old grouch at times. That’s why I like having you around. You stir up the pot and get some pretty rabid discussions going at times.

Don’t forget though, that some of the other guests here don’t know you as well as I do and they might take offense at your style. If that happens then you’re on your own, you cantankerous old fart. Now go ahead and give ‘em hell. The rest of you guys feel free to “pile on” if you wish. The referee is hereby declaring this a “no-holds-barred”, bare-knuckle fight.

    DING!

    LOL

  9. In other words, thumbs down!  Many thanks, Skipper.  Well done, Frank, and bravo!

You asked who else is here, OCM.  I have been here all along, biding my time.

And now it is my turn.

Frank raised valid points throughout this thread.  You have yet to show him the courtesy of a valid answer, or, indeed, any courtesy at all.

Instead, you namecall, in the usual “style” that you seem so proud of.  And you resort to the vulgar vocabulary of an embittered old loser, which seems to be an integral part of that “style.”

But it is hardly a surprise.  Your tendency to come unstuck when you get under pressure is hardly a secret.  You have repeatedly made it clear that while you can dish it out, you can’t take it, in the classic tradition of a schoolyard brat.  But that also seems to be an integral part of your “style.”

But that’s all right, and we should excuse it all, because you’re being “creative.” Right?

We should forgive any insults and abuse you wish to deal out, and we should excuse being stepped on, because it’s your “style.” Right?

We are not supposed to challenge you, because that’s not “what OCM is all about.” Right?

Always the other guy is wrong!  Always everyone is out of step but you!  And we’re simply supposed to swallow that and not be offended!  We’re supposed to take it as some kind of ridiculous little game!  Right?

But who in the pluperfect past tense of hell are you anyway?  Who gave you the right to play unchallenged horse’s ass with the rest of us?

Perhaps I could find a seven-year-old filthy rich kid who could be more spoiled, more self-centered, more self-indulgent, and more thoroughly obnoxious.

But for most seven-year-olds, it is not yet a matter of “style” and “creativity,” so the search might take awhile.

In the meantime, get off it!  Turn off the gas, and quit dumping all over our efforts just because you see an opportunity to cause trouble.

Allan is right.  Someone might take you seriously in the end.

    LOL

  10. It seems to me OCM acted just like the peacenik. You disagree with them and they are not so peaceful. I wonder how OCM was in his younger days when his body was not so messed up? I would think it was more physical than verbal abuse. Sorry OCM I usually agree with you, but not on this one. I know I am new to this blog, but shity behavior is easy to spot. shit

  12. Your choice.  Just don’t try to take Allan’s circlet of laurel.

  13. Well, I suppose Hardy, at that.  It is late for missing Laurel, but I wish Oink at least was back.  I would like to see him lock horns with Phoenix.

  14. Okay, I have tried to keep it civil, but....

OCM - You freely admit that you smoke this weed . Right?

Fact #1: It is illegal. Yeah, yeah, I have heard and used all those arguments myself, in the past, don’t waste your breath. I am an old NM hippy from way back and have been around since the Hog Farm, the Taos hippy wars, etc. The substance is illegal and should not be used, until the day the government says it is okay. That is the law of the land, respect it.
Fact #2: Back in those bad old days, I too burned the herb and hung out with those who also used. Why did I stop? I realised that they were a bunch of dead end kids who would never be successful or do anything constructive. I was right, sad to say. Why did I abandon the use of said substance? These same folks used to speak to me the same way that you do, with a total lack of respect. I left them behind and never, never looked back. I went to college (mathematics - so don’t make any disparaging comments, I AM smater than you are), got my degree and have had a fantastic life since then.
Fact #3: You chose the WRONG Huckleberry to piss off. Ponder this asshole - finger

I was trying to introduce calm into the space and you attack me verbally.

The peacenik was wrong, as mentioned in the article. Most peaceniks are unreasoned idiots. They take a stand and stick with it no matter what the real evidence.

I don’t care what anyone else says, you need to learn to curb your tongue or your typing or whatever.

Thanks to those who care about civil discourse and said as much. All I come here to do is read some different viewpoints, kill some time while sitting in a hotel (deconstruct my handle and you will have an idea of what I do) and maybe make a valid post. I spent a month reading this blog to figure out if I could talk to ya’ll - being a ‘lurker’. I thought I could, but if my rare post causes this kind of vitriol, then I may have to reconsider.

OCM - You can start by apologizing at any time. And, YES, I did take it personally. Where I come from, the way you speak is fighting words. I must remind you that you do NOT know who you may be offending.

    So, all that being said:

OCM - YOU CAN EAT shit AND DIE, dickhead

    I am outta’ here!
