  1. Jay normally I tend to agree with you but I think in this case I can’t. The people fighting against their government want more democracy and want to be part of the EU. Now the latter part seems to me foolish, but better that maybe than being dominated by Putin’s Russia. I see your point about them being anarchists, but you could just as easily level the same accusation at the Founding Fathers. At some point in a civil war you have to take sides. Not so long ago Viktor Yushchenko who won the election in the Ukraine was poisoned with dioxin, probably because he was too pro western. Then they trumped up charges against Yulia_Tymoshenko http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yulia_Tymoshenko when she proved too pro western. Putin is a thug and is forcing his thugocracy on what remains of the old USSR. Lets not forget it was Putin’s secret service that used Polonium to murder Alexander Litvineko http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Litvinenko in Britain. The people protesting against the government in the Ukraine deserve our support.

  2. thanks to both of you - I was just about to make this post, and then when I saw it I was about to make nearly the same comment as Lyndon. My girl Yulia (babe) rotting in jail over BS, why Ukraine dies. Forward the Revolution!!

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Venezuela is burning down. Another Socialist economy falling to pieces. Chavez left a power vacuum, yes, but worse he also left an intelligence vacuum (sound familiar Pol Pot) where most of the people with petro and business skills have fled the country. Thus Venezuela, the 5th largest oil producer, literally with money coming out of the ground, is dead broke and busted. No food, no toilet paper, no factories, no jobs. This is what Socialism brings you. Always.

“Share the wealth” = “spread the poverty” from the bottom up.

  3. What about the real question, who is behind this sham? who is paying these protesters? its a lie if they thinkmthe EU is a better bet than putin! the EU is more like the old USSR run by enelected elite in Brussels and the politicians and media are owned by them, they are way better off with the new Russia, I escaped the wannabe communist soviet of europe, it is nasty (ask the people in sommerset the EU ordered to be flooded) The people have been sold a poisoned chalice, that is the real crime here!

  4. Hi Lyndon.  Point well taken. I have to tell you I hadn’t re-read or taken in fully the things you and Drew mentioned.  And I posted recent comment to Jeff before seeing this page.

I always wondered if the charges against Tymoshenko were false or not. I saw her and thought wow. What a babe. Eye candy and all that but did not pursue further. You know, the old believe only half of what you see and none of what you read. Or ... have I got it bassakwards?

I had read about that poor guy who was poisoned and the charges seemed to be that the Russians did it or else had it done. But to be honest, I didn’t know one way or another and tended to ignore the issue since I didn’t think it had a thing to do with me, and surely wasn’t any of my concern.  I had other things closer to home to worry about.
I know the DM kept bringing up the subject, always and without end of that awful photo of him dying in the hosp.  They made big spreads on the story so often that I just ignored it as the years went by.

    As to the protesters.
I have never seen it fail yet. The authorities use water, stun grenades and tear gas but always the so called “activists” and protesters who we all know are peaceful people, start throwing Molotov cocktails and bricks at the police, set fire to buildings and autos etc.
Look at London recently.  So my natural inclination, even if I don’t favour the regime, is to question the motives of the ppl protesting. I had the same anti feelings with regard to all of the occupy folks.
I think my attitude with regard to protests and those involved, was greatly influenced by the Watts riots in LA.  ALL news reports on Watts referred to Watts as an impoverished ghetto. I might have believed that way back then, had I not actually worked for a time in Watts on and off. What a surprise that was.  What the TV was reporting was not what I saw when there before the riots.Yeah, a part of it was as described. For certain. But not all of it they way the reporters and civil rights activists had it.  Then the anti war folks and ... btw ... the reports on the civil rights marches where again ... the protesters were ALL of them just peace loving kids trying to right age old wrongs. Maybe some were.
