  1. Hi Drew,
Keep us posted on how you migrate all of your programs.  I am in a similar position with the end of support for windows 7.  I know firefox and thunderbird store all of their data in a directory, and all you have to do is install the programs, then copy the directories contents and you are back to where you were.

I use upen office, so I don’t worry about any of that stuff. to get rid of windows on your old drive is easy, just delete any folder that you don’t need.  I don’t have that problem either since who cares when you are using 1-2% of a 1 terrabyte drive.

  2. Wow - didn’t know that I’d been gone so long.

Glad to know you are moving forward with the computer stuff. Didn’t realize (and we’ve forgotten) that hubby signed in to google on my computer (my old google stuff hasn’t worked for ages) - screwed up all my stuff for days. I finally went to YouTube - and wtf - nothing is there but a few of his videos from 2014. Now you all know why I hate google. A click to sign him out - and I had my computer stuff back - but now all my YouTube vid history is gone. If I find time, I’ll start adding things back - or not. Sent YT a nasty gram this AM - they are getting really snotty about their so-called community standards and wiping out videos. Given what I’ve seen over the years - there are no standards - so bite me YouTube.

I finally went out again - drove son to his one appointment Thursday - first time out of the house since 8 April. A whole month not to mention almost all of March (13th was when we last went out). This is beyond stupid. NY says all their latest rise in CCP Covid-19 cases are from people who were in their homes - doesn’t that sort of 1) mean that stay-at-home isn’t working anymore or 2) No one is really, truly abiding by the stat-at-home enough to make it actually work. Or maybe that there is the truth - that you are gonna die when you are gonna die - No Matter What You Do?

Weird not having cats come to the diner - shut it all down and closed up the cat house with massive amounts of bleach to insure it is fully sanitized. Refrig went wonky - another grand out the door (well half of it - we have to wait up to two weeks for the part to come in) - a day of coolers (nice that the son’s shot comes in coolers every two weeks - we have an over abundance now) full of food while we shut the stupid thing down and cleaned it all. Turned back on - doing ok for now. Anyone know how to remove magnet crap from a refrig? Just bits and pieces from 3 that have disinagrated as I was taking them off. Reducing down the magnets to place, food ordering and a couple of necessary ones (I hang appt cards on the front to not forget them)

Got an interesting book on the USS Indianapolis (found it being sold for almost nothing somewhere almost a year ago - now I have the time to read it). Very detailed - very - from leaving Mare Island to picking up the bomb all the way through getting McVey exonerated. I’m glad I had it - I’m actually sick of the computer and tv and movies.

This day is screwed up - it’s only 40 but feels like 32 to me and daughter is throwing up her guts. Fun times.

  3. I just finished reading a book on the USS Indi. Probably by the same author; he wrote a couple books on the story. Did tons of interviews with survivors. Captain was railroaded by the Navy playing CYA. Lots of poor communication going on in that tale.

  4. The PC project is moving, albeit slowly. I may have to call Dell for hand holding on getting permissions for old HD in my new PC. I can get to some of it, but something isn’t set properly as it doesn’t seem to stick. Also we’ve been having problems with the cable modem, giving us slow and wobbly internet. And this new PC may not be able to wifi on the 5Ghz bandwidth, which slows me down a lot because most neighbors have their own wifi, all on the 2.4Ghz bandwidth. If I have to, I’ll get a Cat 6 cable 50’ long and hook it up directly to the modem which lives upstairs.

  5. I’m making a list of the books and I’ll say videos to differentiate between docs and movies from this book. No, it is not the same book, mine is two women (who’d thunk it) who are using every source to detail it all. Do not know, but highly doubt that they talked to anyone in person. I’m interested as I’m still trying to find out - if my Dad’s hospital ship was part of it. He only talked about it once to my brother and me - and I did not ask questions at all. Stupid. More about the Philippines and what the Japanese did to the people.

Still trying to slog through the WWII letters - but finding the ones between my Mom & Dad - reading too much like a soap opera/gossip column. I know the censorship of the situation -the only letter that wasn’t sanitized before the Navy got it - was the one from one of his friends who was hurt - sent back to Pearl and then got on the Yorktown. He mapped their actions/travels in quite details. Guess that was the only way to get real info. Although some of the Moms did a damn good job of tracking their sons too.
