  1. Cash strapped Church of England eh? I would be interested to take a look at their accounts. The Church of England

    Annual investment income £177.8m
    Central assets £5.7bn
    Central land holdings: 112,000 acres
Local land holdings: 129,000 acres (Financial Times estimate)

  2. The Church may eventually get their pound of flesh, but the PR hit they’re taking is going to be a nightmare.  Worse for them is the public awareness of this that they’re raising when even they don’t know how many existing properties out there they can try to strong-arm into paying them money.

Were my land abutting up against church land anywhere in England, I’d be doing some vigorous research in advance of the church, and finding out if I were in that situation, then I’d donate the land to the local municipality (not the church, donating land back to the church would tip them off that something was up...) I wonder if it’s still possible to donate land directly back to the Crown without difficulty?  That might be another way to ditch a legally-poisoned section of land.

England just makes me shake my head anymore.
