One more time, we have the blessings of the liberal establishment. They’re only liberal if you agree that their sh*t smells sweet.
I got a stark reminder of that recently during an exchange on a lonely hearts website I have recently joined. Quick background: your profile has your basic stats and habits - including smoking. I smoke. Following that, you write a bit about who you are, what you like and who you’re looking for. I was approached by a lady who listed herself as “Very Liberal”. Following is the first paragraph of her profile, cut and pasted directly.
Looking for highly intelligent human male NO SMOKERS - kind, gentle and fun-loving. I have a great sense of humor and love slapstick comedy/George Carlin/Chris Rock. I am a professional musician and teacher, also a professional astrologer. I was raised well in Santa Barbara, California and I like people who have class and manners. I also enjoy communicating with people who can spell correctly and write succinctly.
I didn’t find her particularly appealing. The comment about “class” in particular, sounded as if it had come from some nouveau riche trailer trash, but she and I had both spent several years in the same small town, probably at the same time. She in the main town itself, me at the local university about 10 miles away. So I decided to write her back.
I began my email by saying that it was too bad she hadn’t read my curriculum vitae, because I had listed myself as a smoker. I think telling her she should have read everything, pissed her off. After that, there were several paragraphs talking about places I fondly remembered and some of the notable things that happened when we might have met each other.
I finished with:
Considering that we’re exactly the same age, is there any chance that we may have met each other back then?
You can’t smell smoke through an email, so please write back and we can at least remember the good old days.
The first line of her response called me an asshole. The following lines told me that she had more “important” things to do (go to music school) than participate in some of the things I had done at the time we might have met. The things I did should have had great appeal for a liberal of the time.
Unfortunately before I deleted her email before I found this perfect opportunity to discuss arrogant, dictatorial, sanctimonious liberals. I’m including the last paragraph of her profile here, I think a few of you may enjoy it.
I am an avid reader, I swim, I work out with a trainer three times a week and love to love. I am very physical and enjoy physical contact - it rejuvenates me. I am very interested in conversation, communication, sociology and philosophy. I eat organic food, take high colonics, practice T’ai C’hi Chuan, meditate, etc. I am very sensitive emotionally and have very deep feelings.
Let’s take a vote! How many think I should invite her here to join in the debate? Fair warning, she says she has a Phd! People like her are the reason I quit being a liberal, quit being a Democrat and came to a group that honors an honest discussion of issues, whether or not we agree.
