Crickey! $3 a gallon and its self serve? At that price you should get a free lap dance with every fill up.
Hello Whitehouse: Just 1 blend of gasoline please for the whole country. The computers in today’s cars can handle the rest. Start drilling in ANWAR. NOW! Hey, how about that oil shale we used to hear about? At $65/bbl even that has to be cost effective by now. And how about a little blood-for-oil? Don’t we have major owesies in Iraq by now?
Hello Statehouse: Please use some of that emminent domain stuff and build us another 20 refineries and another 50 nuke-u-lar power plants. It wouldn’t be “not in my backyard” because it wouldn’t be my backyard anymore!
Imagine my disgust when I stopped to fill up at 6:30 this evening & it was $2.78 for premium which I usually use...........on my way out at 4pm it was $2.45....... 33 cent increase in just a little over 2 hours??? How does the ecomnomy justify this? I decided to go for the middle grade - we’ll see if it works without any problems........
If gas gets much more expensive I will go to the airport and get 100 octane lowlead for $3.50 per gallon and use it in my Porsche instead of the crappy gas we get now for record prices.
Gasoline @ $3 per gallon, ouch
Bottle of “Dasani” water from a vending machine: $1.25 for 20 Oz.
That’s $8.00 per gallon for TAP WATER, dammittttt!!!!!!!
Reason I brought that up, was just a few minutes ago, one of my co-workers was (rightfully so) complaining about the skyrocketing price of gas, while dumping $1.25 into the vending maching for a damned bottle “Dasani” tap water (think of it as coca-cola without the flavor, calories, or fizz).
And I remember back in the 70s when people were upset because gas cost 47.9 cents per gallon…
LC RP
I remember my mom having a fit when gas was over $1.20 a gallon. I was in middle school (7th, 8th grade, maybe) when that was the case.
A lot has changed since the late 90’s, I guess.
Oil hit $66.40 a barrel today. Folks, the news loves touting the adjusted 1980’s Iran Hostage Crisis price of $80.00 a barrel. We’ll be there in two weeks.
Self fulfilling prophecy of the news media + very greedy futures traders.
Best get used to it, this is our reality for the forseeable future.
I’m TRYING to remain positive about other areas of my life, but shitpots of my after-tax cash going into fuel with huge amounts of tax added onto it is making this a real hard prospect. :(
Aw crap… Scratch $66.40, we just hit $67.10.
Oil Rises to Record $67.10 on Concern Supplies Are Inadequate
I’m tellin’ ya. $80.00 within 2 weeks. Someone REALLY wants this to happen… The unending drone of “concern” about oil supply is ridiculous.
Sorry, that URL didn’t work. I’ve tried again, but it didn’t go either. I’ll just paste the raw URL here, and let you cut and paste:

Damn, the war for oil thing isn’t playing out too well for the Left. The oil companies have to pay for the oil, the prices of which are set by the OPEC nations. The higher prices are to cover the extra cost the oil companies are incurring. Under the paradigm of the Left, the greeeeedy oil companies are supposed to be stealing the oil and making a huge profit. I just don’t see it.
Just so you don’t feel too bad, gas here in New Zealand is nearly $1.50 PER LITER, and rising just as fast as in the US! Let’s do the math:
I just paid $1.45 per liter today. At 3.78 liters per gallon, that’s $5.48 per gallon. Even converting that to USD @ $1 NZ=$.71 US, that’s $3.89 per gallon. But, since I am in NZ spending NZ dollars, that doesn’t really matter. It still costs me over $60 to fill the 12 gallon tank in our Mazda. Fortunately, commuting distances here in NZ are a lot less than in the US.
Bottom line is, don’t complain too much, my brothers and sisters in the US. You still have it better than most places on the globe.
Remember a period of time in the 70’s when you could only buy gas on even or odd days?
Illegitimi Non Carborundum:
We’re not quite as bad as that here where I am in Canada (Province of Ontario), but we’re feeling the pain here as well. We’re hovering at the $1.00 per liter mark which with our exchange rate with the USD works out to $3.17 USD per US Gallon, putting us on par for the highest prices per gallon that California currently is suffering.
It hurts to fill up now.
It doesn’t matter where you are, these additional costs are going to start factoring into everything we buy due to increased transportation and production costs, and it’s all being driven by fears of what MIGHT happen. Gods but I hate speculative futures-market trading.
