  1. Actually P man, its already here. No more incandescent bulbs, only the new weird ones.
All appliances here have for years had the label with the power rating but so far no outright banning of the energy hog models.
And last so far, but not least, 30% of all coal plants in the eastern US will be shuttered in the next five years or so because it is too expensive to update them to the new EPA regs. Say hello to blackouts east coasters. Out west we have Hydro and no one is going to agree to breach them for Mother Gaia.

  2. If it was not so stupid it would be funny, look at north american toilets! they outlaawer the old 5 litre flush for the 3.5 flush to save 1 1/2 litres a flust, thing is they dont work first time so now , using green maths , we save 2 x 1 1/2 litres by having to flush twice! Then there is the CFL bulbs to save the planet (except chine where they kill and maim wholesale in the factories, but as their great commie rat leader said, Chine will never run out of chinese!) no one tells you they use 2 or 3 hours of power just to start up! the website that had real world tests on this disappeared ! and if you use them how we all tend to they have short lives! and they contain, at least ubtill they break, a very dangerous gas! we live in a post science world!
Did I mention the expensive appendage we all have to buy and maintain with our cars? back in the 1970s when we had archaic fuelling and ignition on our cars they introduced catalytic convertors to burn the unused fuel and nast products of partial combustion to reduce smog, now in the 21st century we have more computing power than NASA had when they first put a man on the moon, just to make the ignition and fuel perfect, with lean burn technology they have to deliberately miss fuel the motor to get the effin thing to glow! in the UK the car will pass the anual emissions test, a real exhaust gas analyser test, if you punch out the ceramic matrix and have the motor chipped to stop feeding the damn cat!
I propose a public hanging of Ralph Nader !!

  3. Well said both and Chris I had forgotten all about Saint Nadar.
Agree cept I propose hanging 2wice just to be sure.

It’s insane the way folks here (not all of course) seem wedded to the green cause as if this little island could save the planet by following EU dictat. They seem to have a slavish devotion to the cause and to Pol.Correctness too.

  4. The next item on the Euroweenie agenda is electric hairdryers. They want to limit the amount of Kwh they use. So now you will have to dry your hair twice as long. (needless to say with my lack of har I am not losing any sleep over it but even so. So where is teh energy saving here? Control freakery writ large.

Chris on a related topic all the diesel cars since 2005 here have to have a particulate filter (dpf). I believe they foisted this crap on North America as well. Its a good idea in principal, but as always badly executed. We bought our Audi second hand. Fortunately the previous owner was so pissed off with constant “regenerations” to burn up all the accumulated carbon. He had the dpf cut open and the guts removed. It does require an ecu tweak to fool the computer, but at least I don’t get the grief of a blocked dpf now. One thing is for sure though I wont be buying another diesel.
