A safari class rifle will throw a 400 grain bullet fast enough to generate 4000 lb-ft or more muzzle energy; one ounce is 437.5 grains. Close enough to 9/10 oz. Bullet frontal area is about 6 or 7 to the square inch.

The Vasa never happened. Eric Flint wrote about it. Never happened in his ‘history’ books. Nor was Gustavus Adolphus killed at the Battle of Lützen in 1632. Grantville saved him. We all know that!
Chris, you know you have to stop eating the jimson weed. It’s bad for you.
Is that what she’s slipping into my vegetable soup? Here I thought it was the Eric Flint history books!
That 24 pound ball has a big splat factor.
A couple of years ago, I think the Mythbusters people got in trouble for letting one get out of control and punching a hole in someone’s home.
I loved how Eric Flint described a 24# ball hitting modern forts: (modern being defined as of 1635)
It was something like this; the walls had an angled glacis so defenders could fire on those who got close to the walls. Also, the walls where somewhat stuffed with dirt and gravel. A 24” ball just embedded itself and became part of the defense.
