The second link leads me to believe that the field piece down in the town memorial in Flemington is a Whitworth gun. I’ve driven past it a million times, but never walked over to the little traffic island it’s on to inspect things. I just notice some odd looking bit of metal on the back end of the cannon every time I go past. Looks like a bent handle or something. Your town probably has a similar memorial, probably with some kind of cannon in it. Do you know what kind it is?
