On The Cost Of Illegals

  1. Clear, well thought out and sober analysis, as always, Vilmar.

If enough of us right wing base voters make noise about this illegal alian problem, President W will get the message that he’ll lose the enthusiasm that a chunk of the electorate has for him (I say enthusiasm because, I mean, is any of us REALLY gonna vote “D” for president or congress?) - he has us by the balls over this issue.

AND, if he gets the message, God willing, he’ll do something.  I think he’s not been echoing our sentiment even though I believe he feels the same way because it’s a calculated gambit, in that he stands to lose more Hispanic voters by taking a stand on this border-tightening issue than he will lose conservative (mostly White) voters if he doesn’t.  It has to look like it’s not worth it to remain silent on it anymore.

After all, the man went to business school, he is a pragmatic politician, and is familiar with the concept of “opportunity cost.”

NOW, I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND (YES, IN ALL CAPS) THAT IF DAN RATHER IS ALLOWED TO POST MORE PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL ON THIS BLOG, THAT A “NOT WORK SAFE” WARNING BE DISPLAYED, AND A “SEE PICTURE” LINK PROVIDED.  I WORK FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND WE HAVE A PRETTY LIBERAL COMPUTER USE POLICY, BUT IT DOES NOT INCLUDE PORNO VIEWING UNDER THE ACCEPTABLE PRACTICES.

  2. Now that the elections are over I am glad you guys are zeroing-in on this issue.  I feel like my voice is being heard - I just hope we’re not 20 years too late.  With so many already in the US and more coming every day, I don’t see a solution that history will look favorably upon; a solution that is both viable AND at the same time humane.

Of course, I say, “Fuck humane, just make it happen.” LOL

  3. Speaking of World War Tres, this reminds me of a party I was at a few months back.  I was speaking with a kooky libertarian guy who was all FOR open borders.  So when he started going on about how he hated Michelle Malkin, I excused myself.  Anyway, the next day, he wrote about me in his blog, and how my site is a hate site, filled with invective.  All of this because I didn’t want to get into an argument at a party.  If you want, I’ll dig up a link to his old post.

  4. Lisa: your “libertarian” was probably a Lefty in disguise. I can’t see how anyone would describe your site as “hate-filled”. Yeah, give us a link to this character. Methinks we need to go have a talk with him.

  5. Allan,

Here’s an exerp from his post, about me and my blog, which I used to have on blogger.  And just so you know, he actually ended up apologizing to me.  But if you want to visit his blog just to get a load of him, be my guest—http://thetruthwillout.blogspot.com, and click on the December archive.  (I couldn’t find any kind of permalinking on his site.) Just please don’t mention my name.  Here goes:

“I also met the Author of The Urban Grind Blog. Almost immediately we started discussing our differing views on immigration. Now one day I’d love to write an entry about expunging the last remnants of the Anti-Immigration wing of the conservative movement. That being said, I’m in the extreme minority on this one, and at present, I’m the one in danger of being expunged--More likely, someone on a message board somewhere will call me a liberal.

I’m not sure what I’m at liberty to say about our conversation, because she wasn’t on-the-record or anything (umm, yeah, because I really care about Journalistic standards), but I am free to make my points.

**Besides restrictions for security reasons, i.e., those who might be terrorists, there should be little to no restrictions on those who come here to work. It is a matter of free-trade. Free flow of Capital/Free Flow of Labor. Sort of like the Eurozone.

**Developed economies depend on immigration to make up for lower fertility rates. This helps take care of the elderly and drive productivity and growth.

**In a future without immigration we are likely to see a serious labor shortage at the bottom end of the labor pool AND with restrictions on student visas we are also not attracting the highest talent from other economies to come innovate here.

**Assimilation is not a problem here, Samuel Huntington’s screed aside.

**If you’re worried about immigrants abusing our social services and welfare then fix the welfare system, don’t seal off the borders. I believe this might be called putting the cart before the horse.

Our debate didn’t end fruitfully at all. How come? Well, because my friend turned out to be that most dodgy of conservatives...A Malkinite! One whose writing is so hateful and invective that clear argument takes a back seat. Now, I’ve been known to let emotion get in the away of my arguments, but that just means I can recognize it when I see it--it doesn’t make me a hypocrite.

Here’s a good place to start. “Zelda” writes ...Maybe then, people will see the current Democratic party for what it truly is—a party of pacifist pansies who want to tax the heck out of productive Americans, open up our borders to just anyone, not defend its citizens, and surrender our sovereignty to the U.N. and the World Court. Umm...yeah.

Although calling The Urban Grind nasty doesn’t seem to be much of an insult. Here’s a non-political post about Joan and Melissa Rivers I say, more power to them since I think Joan Rivers is hillarious. Still Melissa and Joan Rivers are not without their critics, who say the duo is way too nasty. Boo hoo freaking whoooo! there you go.

Well, you should go peruse the site. I have no desire to disparage “Zelda” directly. But mainly I see this kind of invective blogging on the right. From her website you can find links to both Michell Malkin’s blog, and La Grand Dame of the angry right the aptly named “Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler”. Idiotarian, if you didn’t know is what some polemicists call liberals. Real clever boys, real clever. Schoolyard insults make for great debate.

Besides what I see as a unproductively mean streak on the part of many bloggers, I would also like to say that I never hope this Blog becomes like so many others, in which every entry is peperred with phrases like: MSM, Idiotarian (duh!), flip-flop, pajamahadeen, moonbat, wingnut, Israel, Israel, Israel, Palestine, Palestine, Palestine, etc. I probably will fall into the trap though.

  6. Oh, and the address of my old blog is http://theurbangrind.blogspot.com, in case you’re at all curious.  I decided not to move everything over to my new site, since I had a hard time of it initially, and also, I think my writing has improved since then.
