On Sir Terry Pratchett

 

1. That video was from 2011, and Pratchett is still turning out the books, his latest being a completely new series co-written with Stephen Baxter.

   So while this may be his choice for the future, in the words of the sign the witch Granny Weatherwax wears when she goes Borrowing and her mind leaves her body,
   “I AINTENT DEAD YET!”

2. And thank goodness for that. The article was only from last month and you’re right about the video date. But he keeps making news, or at least keeping his argument out there . He’s been banging the drum for assisted suicide, with which I agree.  Because of who he is, the criticism hasn’t been quite as mean spirited and harsh due to his stand on the subject. But he clearly has no intention of, as he’s said and I’m paraphrasing here, living beyond his sell by date.

3. I watched my mother wither and die from Alzheimer’s. I watched how it wore down my father, who was her primary care-giver, until he just physically couldn’t do it any more.

   Anyone who opposes assisted suicide should have to care for someone with a terminal illness. That might give them a different perspective.

4. Drew is correct, of course. I watched a Youtube interview with Terry Pratchett and he said he’s gonna fight to the bitter end. He’s giving a lot of his money to groups trying to find a cure for Alsheimer’s.

   I just rewatched ‘The Colour of Magic’. Most of you probably don’t even know they made a movie of Pratchett’s first Discworld novel. Which means you probably don’t know that Pratchett had a bit part at the very beginning of the movie. He’s one of the scientists who want to know if that turtle is male or female.

5. BTW, I posted that same Star Trek/Great A’tuin pic on Facebook. Some old friend from high school came back and yelled ‘BURSAR!’ Yeah, just like that… all capital letters. I was forced to reply that I was fresh out of dried frog pills.
