I just rolled 103,000 miles on the Impala. On my 1000 mile road trip last month I got 32 mpg. Not bad at all for a big car.
You’ve got a Saturn too? I bought a new SL sedan a month after the 9/11 attacks (2002 model). It’s got nearly 90,000 miles on it. I’ve taken it into places that a passenger car should never go to, such as driving to deer camp up a logging road. Several times. Yeah, there’s a floorpan “modification” or two, but it just keeps on keeping on. I’ve got mileage as high as 42.3 mpg with it (at a constant 65 mph up I-87), but I normally get in the low- to mid-30s. My wife has the “gas hog,” a 2001 Toyota Corolla, which we bought used when it had 60,000 miles on it. It’s got about 105,000 miles now. It gets right around 30 mpg.
As for gas prices, most of the places around here are in the $3.10/gal range. With gas prices staying as low as they have been around here, I’ll have more money for Christmas gifts for my wife and daughter . . . and some to stash away for ammo . . . and that .45-70 Marlin Guide Gun I want . . .
I know this aint a competition but I got ya all beat. i drive a 79 celica gt 5 sp with as we speak 262,000 on it. As a professional mech I just keep tossing new parts at it as required. It doesnt get the 30+ milage the fuel injected models you all have but its responsive and fun to drive. Huh,Imagine that,A thread that doesnt mention politics. I like it.
