The sky is falling, the sky is falling !
I live in he Peoples Republic of Maryland and have NOT seen any shortage of acorns or squirrels (with the exception of the two legged variety in their Obama bumper sticker equipped Priuses doing 80 mph on the interstate) .
Agressive squirrels, check,
squirrels eating bird feed, check,
deer chomping down as many acorns as they can find, check.
Any of this unusual?, only if you’re a lefty loony tunes.
Oak trees don’t produce an abundance of acorns every year. They produce in cycles called mast years.
The large oak in my yard had a carpet of acorns under it last year, which the squirrels, deer and turkeys loved. This year it didn’t produce any. Next year it will produce some and more every year until another mast year. This tree is on a 4 year cycle.
I was wondering the same thing about those helicopter maple seeds. Seems like we’re usually covered in them, but the last year or maybe two, nada.... I wonder how we can blame it on Al Gore?
Anyone who wants squirrels can come to my house & take them for free!!!.......Am over run with them. And they are not stupid - they have figured out the squirrel proof birdfeeder. During the summer have caught them chomping on plants in my gardens, altho sprinkling PlantSkyyd seemed to help.........
