OH LOOK THERE … A NAZI CAR.  BNP opposition never stops even when the claim is false.

  1. 1.  In England, does the Doctrine of Parliamentary Privilege {*} apply, as it does in Canada?

    2.  Was Cole’s statement made inside, or outside the House of Commons?

If (1) is “Yes”, and (2) was “outside”, why didn’t he simply hit Cole with a slander suit?  He didn’t pick the registration number the plate that goes with the car, the DVLA did, and they obviously didn’t find anything offensive about it, or they wouldn’t have issued it!

{*} In Canada, the Doctrine of Parliamentary Privilege protects a Member of the House of Commons from being sued by another member for slander or libel for any statements made within the confines of the House, though you may be asked to apologize by the Speaker of the house, or be removed from the House until you do.

  2. When I was last there PP did apply, there was a rumpus where an MP was accused of insulting another inside the commons so he could not be sued. I dont think the BNP are far right as they sport socialist agenda, they are simply far right of the main far,far left parties that remain in the UK. Their appeal is that they support England and the English, how outrageous can they get??
    The woman is an asshole.

  3. Wonderful. More inefficiency and political scrapping over the issue.

And the ironic thing is that this might actually be somewhat legit as a charge: British laws might have made putting the actual word (Nazi) on the plate illegal or tied in red tape, and so instead, aforementioned BNP idiot simply swapped out one of the letters: it gets through, but EVERYBODY recognizes what it means.

Also, as for the idea that the BNP is all sunshine and flowers, these guys are tied into all colors of anti-Semites, Neo-Fascists/Neo-Nazis, Holocaust deniers, and general crackpots. It is a sad sign of the times that they are on the ascendency in lieu of the mainstream parties’ failure to come up with an effective response.

    Chris:

Their appeal is that they support England and the English, how outrageous can they get??

Given the history of PR for unpleasant groups, you REALLY do NOT want to find the answer to that out.

  4. Ok, it’s news to me, and in a way it makes sense, saving resources etc., but I had no idea that in England you got the license plate when you bought a used car. In the US, the plate goes with the owner, and the new owner gets a new plate from DMV.

So I guess all this NA51 stuff means that Newcastle is just brimming with neo-Nazis, right?
Nearly 46,656 of them if the trailing 3 digits are 0..9 and A..Z each, and they all got used.

For more info on the BNP, and the Antifa, a trip to Gates of Vienna blog might be instructive. Many posts to choose from. Here is just one:

    http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/2009/05/antifa-turns-out-in-force-in-cologne.html

Is Antifa the anti-fascist group mentioned in the news article here? I don’t know. They don’t appear to be gentlemen of the utmost quality though.

  5. Turtler:- that was meant as sarcasm! I am shocked that a bunch of socialist thugs are more appealing to ME than the main parties. This is because the others have sold out to europe, they are traitors, this makes the BNP less bad. There is more chance (slim as it might be) of the BNP growing with power than the others recovering from the power thrall of the EU.
The bastard pro EU parties (lab, libdems, tory, green communist etc) have squandered the cost of freedom spent in the 39 - 1945 war and we are getting to the point that the English and England would have been better off not fighting for the ungrateful bastards on the wrong side of the channel (that was a rant!!)

  6. Drew ist is possible to retain license plates but it is yet another government revenue stream as you have to pay to transfer them. For most people unless it is a particular plate it is easier and cheaper to leave it with the car.

As Chris said above the BNP are national socialists. Nothing right wing about them. They are also pretty anti American as well as the other antis Turtler mentions. Yes it is a sad reflection on the spineless main parties. People feel they have no recourse but to vote for the BNP. It is something I have been banging on about for years. To me it was obvious that sooner or later, when the effects of uncontrolled immigration are felt in every town and nothing is done. People will vote for parties who they think will do something. It is happening all over Europe and in my view it will be ugly.

Something that is overlooked is just how bad the economic data is in the UK. Unemployment will continue to rise and it is going to be years before there is any real growth in the economy. In such circumstances extremism flourishes. All the while Bliar and Brown were hosing money into the economy people felt able to stomach the presence of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants and failed asylum seekers. Once they start losing their jobs and realise that there are parasites from every corner of the globe getting state housing and state welfare they are not going to put up with it. The General Election next year is going to be very interesting.

A lot of former Labour supporters will vote BNP because they have said they will put a stop to immigration. It is of course nonsense as the only way that will ever change is if Britain leaves the EU and I’m afraid that aint going to happen as much as I might wish it. A lot of Tories will vote UK Independance because they despise Europe it is hard to predict the outcome. My gut feeling is the Tories will get a slim majority and Labour will be wiped out but there will be a lot of smaller parties with national representation. It probably is as well the we don’t have proportional representation in the UK otherwise you would see an awful lot of BNP and UKIP MPs in Westminster next year.

  7. Lyndon has it absolutely right.  There are ppl here that I know, who would in past times have never considered say UKIP or the BNP. And when I talk to the guys doing construction next door on breaks and such, the feeling is that they are losing their country. My wife has felt that way for awhile but the BNP are anathema to her. But she sees little in the Tories these days, and was tempted by UKIP due to a strong anti-europe stance.

Yes, National Socialism is left BUT groups like these and especially the BNP are always referred to as “The Extreme Right” by those on the left.  And they’re certainly reported as such by the media. Anyway, forget labels. I think we know where they stand as they’ve made things clear in the past.  That’s why I get so frustrated by the opposition like this Cole idiot. Use their own words against them. But stop using fake evidence as she did. That can only give them strength.

BTW ...  the car we got (used 2001) a few months ago came with the plate. They are large and cover a big area, unlike our (USA) small square plates which sometimes can be harder, by comparison, to read. I think you can see that in the photo on the original post.

  8. Hi guys. Been away for a while. Back in the UK now.

“A lot of Tories will vote UK Independance...” Damn right. I voted UKIP on the EU ballot sheet, and Tory on the local sheet, in the elections last June. I shall wait and see whether there is a UKIP candidate where I live. Personally, I expect the Tories to earn a respectable majority.

Re appellations of the BNP: Have you noticed that the word Fascist is the ultimate insult by one socialist to another socialist? I saw this back in the 70s, when I was a student. I was a proto-Thatcherite, back then.

    TTFN.
