As to your last comment about “Republican” in the header for the story: When I scan the news online, I guess from the sense of the lead header whether the story was done by an independent or whether it has AP origins. Stuff that associates Republican, SUV, conservative, etc. with negative leads like you referred to is always AP, and I never read their crap anymore.
