In this country we have no place for hyphenated Americans.
Theodore Roosevelt
It’s the good old halo effect, or reverse racism. Whenever a Black guy can speak well and has no criminal record, the media falls to their knees in front of him. Kind of sad, in a way, isn’t it? Why should an educated, articulate, well dressed young Black man be such a phenomenon? Educational discrimination ended in the 50s.
Halle Berry & Tiger Woods are two other examples of the halo effect that you mention. Black Oscar winner, black super golfer, but hardly any mention of Berry’s white parent or Woods’ Cambodian parent. When does one stop or start being black or white for Pete’s sake? Shall we refer to Himmler’s formulae for determining “Jewishness” and substitute “Negro” or “black” or “African-American”?
Further from TR:
On hyphenated citizens -
“There is no place for the hyphen in our citizenship… We are a nation, not a hodge-podge of foreign nationalities. We are a people, and not a polyglot boarding house.
On current Democrat policy -
“It is both foolish and wicked to teach the average man who is not well off that some wrong or injustice has been done him, and that he should hope for redress elsewhere than in his own industry, honesty, and intelligence.”
and
“The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life.”
