  1. First of all I don’t think there should even be any debates. We had about 1000 of the things during the primaries and we’re all sick to death of them.

Second, if there are actually debates between these two, they should be real ones, not the same old “here are my talking points” nonsense. Hit each candidate with questions about the economy, border security, illegal immigration, GWOT, government size and debt, the Constitution, State’s Rights, international relations with enemy nations, UN, Law of the Sea Treaty, etc, and demand solutions.

Give each guy the same 25 questions in advance, and allow them 7 minutes to answer, with a 2 minute rebuttal. Just like scholastic debates!

Third, it’s time to ratchet up the excitement factor. Any candidate who evades the questions gets bitch slapped with an iced herring. Or use that green goo Nickleodeon loves so much. Or turn it into some kind of gameshow. Something, ANYTHING to keep the audience awake and to keep these clowns on subject.

And it’s beyond time to strip away the empty rhetoric. If you’ve got a plan* it’s time to lay it out in detail.

    * We’re still waiting to hear John Kerry’s plan. He served in Vietnam, you know.
