buy more ammo.............!!!!!!!
As an ex-musician, I’d be much more okay with this if it was actually about protecting composers/playwrights/etc. intellectual property rights. But it isn’t. It’s about making sure that ONLY the production company gets to rape said artist of said rights.
Don’t take my word for it. Ask Prince why he changed his name.
Uh, you do know that for the MPAA - 70% of all piracy is within the MPAA - insiders - not the evildoers on the outside, don’t you???
And you do know that 100% of the monies gotten by settlement or court decisions of RIAA go into the lawsuit funding account - none, zero, nada goes to the artists who actually create the ‘intellectual property’ they fight so vehemently for.
In other words this is just another way (which will destroy the industries) to get more money from the users of the World - you know - consumers.
I’m waiting for the first lawsuit about the definition of a “public” nuisance. How can it be public if taking place in the privacy of your own home? In what way is it a “public” nuisance if it affects a very limited spectrum of the populace? I think the courts are going to have fun…
“substantially interferes with the interest of the public in the quality of life and community peace, lawful commerce in the county, property values, and is detrimental to the public health, safety, and welfare of the county’s citizens, its businesses and its visitors.”
Pardon me? Health safety and welfare of the county’s citizens? I’ve never seen a shootout with pirates, nor have I heard of the dumping of CD sludge, nor the lowering of property values due to those damn music junkies sitting outside of a disc house waiting the newest releases of their fix.. The only thing I see this protecting is the music industry..
As a side-note, define substantially. Can this be little Jimmy ripping a track and putting it online, where it has the potential of being copied millions of times, which is a substantial amount?
Bah, imho, this law will basically be wasted the first time it is used on anything smaller that an actual ring of CD counterfeiters, which already have federal laws like this covering them.
