  1. We have a neighbor who has a horse (boarded behind us on an old farm) and she rides down the street now and then. I was watching all the Diamond Jubilee events - starting with all the Queens Horses - would love to be able to go to some of those events. We have the KY Horse Park fairly close (under an hour I think) but I’ve never had the time and/or money yet to go (even when we lived in KY). They do those four-in-hand driving competitions - I would love to see one in real life.

Part of me would love that life again - but man the cost and the work - I’m not sure I’m up to it any more.

  2. I’m really not sure if horses are street legal here in NJ. Oh, they probably need a diaper, or a scraper pan under the carriage or whatever ... but I never see any out and about. I do see the horsey set ladies in the stores, in their jodhpurs and little rowel-free stub spurred Wellington boots, and there are horse trailers everywhere, but the horses never get off the farms and out onto the pavement.

  3. Oh, and if you live in “semi horse country”, I’d like to see your idea of full-on horse country. I’d bet you could go outside and smell horses on the breeze just about any day of the year. grin

Down the street one way he’s got a horse vet. A bit up the road there’s a stud farm.
And for the tots it’s the Pony Club.

What could be Peiper’s local is equestrian named, and if that pub isn’t his, then the one on the other side may be, and that one is horsey as well.

A few towns over they’ve got their own BREED of horses, thank you ever so much.

To me it’s amazing you don’t have foxes and hounds bounding across the back yard. Daily.

    “semi horse” indeed! LOL

    Tally ho!!!

  4. Haven’t seen a fox in our back yard (garden if you please even if it actually isn’t) in three years. One sighting with cubs and one with a wabbit in it’s jaws. Beautiful animals.

Yeah but I think that’s about 40 minutes away if ur driving.

There used to be a racing stable here too. Wife says once upon a long time ago many of the horses used to trot by here, and folks would go to the downs to watch them race every morning for exercise.

She also tells me that the “Head Boy” (although in his 50’s) is the father of the man who owns AW Jones Carriages.

  6. I’m not even going to ask what a head boy is over there, but that kind of job descriptor will get you arrested here in the states.

  7. He’s in overall charge of the stables and staff and the care of Mr. Ed.
He was himself a former jockey. Lots of Head Boys were jockeys after a riding career over.
