  3. Our feral kitty is smaller too - I think that the runt of the litter with the feral cats tend to stay with mom a lot longer. My mom managed to entice him into her apartment, with the help of Alley Cats got him neutered and vaccinated, and he even continued to hang around (guess the life on the streets wasn’t what he was looking for) - and we took him - ostensibly so that she could move into assisted living. That never happened - but the itty bitty kitty is now elderly (over 7) - so the move indoors at 3 months was a life saving grace for him.

We have two local outdoor cats. Our neighbor (the second house west) had a major breakdown in the midst of the Feb snow/frozen period. I was not sure, as she came to my house once prior, if it was a medication issue or alcohol - but she had 3 outdoor kitties (and apparently a couple indoor ones too). The one male went fairly quickly - which I never quite understood as her garage door is locked up just enough for the kitties to squeeze under to get out of weather, always has been, still is. We see the multi-color one frequently but the gray and white not so much. Her lawn is being mowed - and the daughter is out here frequently - and I still see the orange tabby in the window. I’m not sure what is going on - as no one lives there, the daughter hasn’t tried to sell it nor get rid of the cats. I am still debating putting food out for the two cats - but, as the last time I did it - our yard looked like a fast food joint for raccoons and opossum - I hesitate.

As long as vets continue to charge confiscatory rates to neuter (and guys get all squeamish about neutering their male animals) - this problem won’t resolve itself. It’s why I like the new show on Animal Planet - Dr. Jeff Rocky Mountain Vet - he will treat homeless people’s pets and neuter for almost nothing - because to him - it is ALL about the animals. I just wish that Alley Cats and U CAN would do more advertising - maybe it would help cut down the problem.

But then again, I saw a video on a cat rescued from the largest hording situation in US history. Blind and without teeth - she was one of 700 cats taken from a FL home. Some days - two is too many. I just can’t imagine so many cats - and believe me - I’m an animal lover from childhood.
