  1. Hmmm. DirectTV?

  2. We have a Triple Play provider here on a military base in Japan that absolutely sucks.

The family has kicked the TV habit, so whatever is being piped in for free is good enough.  Kids are all over the internet streaming videos so they haven’t gone completely cold turkey.

All sorts of alternatives for voice service.  I’m using majicjack for 20 bucks a year.  All free US calling.  I’ll say it again.  20 bucks a year for reliable phone service.

That leaves me with a 40 dollar bill every month for just good enough DSL service.

  5. Kuso don’t they have really fast Internet access in Japan? I’m sure I read that they can supply 24Mb/s. About all I get is get cheap calls to the US at about 6c a minute. Telecoms in the UK should be called Telecon. Maggie sold of British Telecom which was a good thing, but they still own the last bit of copper wire to your door. They have no plans to replace this with fibre optic. Other countries around the world get fast access but the best I can hope for is about 6Mb/s. Oh and did I mention the tv tax!!! $250 a year so I can have the BBC tell me lies!

  6. yes they do. Unfortunately I reside on a military installation and the provider serving our fine men and women is crap. Thanks AAFES. You suck!

Around the Tokyo area, High Speed Internet is available for the equivalent of about one dollar per Meg.  70Mb is normal.

Most homes are supplied by aerial fiber.

WiMax with 40Mb Download, 10Mb upload capability will be available across Japan in a year or two.
