  1. Oh, great.  I come home for a few days and get met with this crap for traveling next week.  Yo, Gore, I’ve got a bunch of global warming on my sidewalk for you to shovel off, some car windows that need your expert handling to de-ice, and a gas bill that is shooting straight up through the roof.

  4. Come on Skipper. It’s winter. You always have blizzards in winter. Never have I seen a blizzard in summer. It’s normal...no ‘global warming’ involved.

  7. WIMP?

Just in time for the morning rush hour, a winter storm descended on St. Louis. And this afternoon’s rush promises to be no picnic.

“We started getting the change from rain to freezing rain and snow at Lambert Field at just about 6 a.m.,” said forecaster Thomas Spriggs of the National Weather Service.

By sometime around 9 a.m., the downfall had turned to strictly snow—and lots of it. Winds of up to 30 mphs created whiteout conditions in some areas.

“In the northern parts of the metro area, we’re looking for five inches, six inches, maybe seven inches of snow,” he said.

In the city and the southern stretches of the metro area, he said, the outlook is for three to five inches.

Spriggs said he expected some especially heavy periods between 9 a.m. and mid-afternoon. “Visibility will be a quarter-mile or less every now and then,” he said.

Even after the snow stops, the area’s winter woes will continue. Single-digit temperatures are forecast for the next two nights, with readings not expected to climb back to near-normal readings around 40 until early next week.

A dispatcher with the Missouri Highway Patrol told the Associated Press that a fatal accident had been reported in western Missouri, along U.S. 24 near Buckner, with a snow plow involved. No further information was available.

Illinois State Police in District 11 had responded to 50 crashes by 2:30 p.m. but none resulted in serious injury, Master Sgt. Richard Martin said. He said most drivers were proceeding cautiously.

    Seriously.
I’m from Louisville KY. My hometown hasn’t seen more than maybe an INCH of snow at a time ALL WINTER.
Here in Great Mills MD, they freaked out SOO bad last week over a HALF INCH of snow that my kids got a SNOW DAY. WTF?

  11. UPDATE!!  Well, I felt obliged to use shovel and blower TWICE yesterday here 35m SW of Chicago… then again this morning (damn drifts!).  So I’m in my annual “I hate this area” mood—even though I’m well aware of others’ worse situation. So.....
Dear Skipper: Me bad for calling you names. I repent, Oh magnanimous One.
