  1. As the BDSM model said as she was being trussed up, “‘Long as you enjoy what you’re doing.”

  2. Good posting Drew - if and when our ship docks - I will pass on some coinage to BMEWS, it is one of my favorite hanging out spots.

I know greatly the trials - would love to find something - well I did about 3 months after my hubby was told to quit working - thought it was perfect - at home, computer data entry, homerun business by old Army friends - little did I know that their entire family would melt down within weeks of my signing on (terminal illness, heart attack scare (owner), spouse quit job, a divorce and another spouse laid off) guess who got the pink slip first - yes me, the newbie, non-family member. . .

I look with little effort (I admit it) because of the past 6+ years - still on PTSDish level 20 that perhaps, maybe disaster and/or a setback will strike again (son’s injury and long recovery) - and I will then lose the job I just got - since all the jobs I’ve had have ended up being temp because of disaster, PCS orders and other such mayhem - I guess it is just second nature with me now.

I at least will start my veggies and work in the garden to keep some additional (and nutritious) food stuffs on our table. I will ferry the adult, disabled child to his appointments and scrimp and save as much as I can - and I will be content until I beat back the demons I now deal with and either say - money we don’t need no stinkin money or find a job that I can do. . .

Until then - do you commute? I hate doing windows!

  4. People with money are looking for excellence.  They can’t find it anywhere; from the slack-jawed teenager at the store, to people who work for them in business.

When they find it, not only are they surprised, reward it, & promote it, but they respect it.

When will people re-learn that free enterprise is the engine of freedom?

    God Bless America.

  5. Duh, own up Drew, your IT career is over.

Possibly. But possibly not. I was axed 6 years ago right after 9/11, at the age of 48. My field is hardware/software design, not IT, but the same principal may apply:

    A middle-aged employee is obsolete.
A middle-aged (or older) consultant is experienced.

I’m a one man shop now and have never been happier. Not ready to retire, but paying the bills.

Get some cards printed up, go to some networking meetings, and get the word out. You can do both traditional windows and Microsoft Windows, if you’re so-inclined.

BTW, I just threw a few bucks in the tip jar to help until you get your first lucrative consulting gig. Good luck!
